The government of our nation exists to serve its citizens
To the Editor:
Where are they now? We just celebrated this country’s independence from Great Britain in 1776, 241 years ago. Years later, in 1787, a document was created known as the Constitution. This document, originally comprising seven articles, set up the frame work of our government. The United States Constitution is the supreme law of our country. However, like many new legislations, there have been changes. Those changes have been made to meet the needs of the nation.
Since the Constitution came into force in 1789 it has been amended 27 times. It would appear that the people in charge then were much smarter than those who are there now. Why? Well, the others didn’t sit there and say this Constitution doesn’t cover all our problems so let’s get rid of it and write a new one, did they? Nope. Over the years they did what was needed to fix or strengthen the law.
Now, that takes us to the people who are there now, who for seven-plus years have wanted to throw out the Affordable Care Act instead of fixing it. No one said it was the answer to all our health problems so don’t throw out the baby with the bath water. Instead, bring back those legislators who would fix what needed to be fixed. The first three words in our Constitution “We The People” affirm that the government of the United States of America exists to serve its citizens. Where are they now?
