Once the news is unbiased, we can make fair decisions
To the Editor:
In response to Mark Shupe’s guest column titled “Draining the Swamp” – What swamp is this president draining? Every single one of his cabinet members benefits off legislation to line their pockets. Tom Price advocates legislation that boosts profits for health care companies. He has a habit of trading health care stocks that are affected by legislation he writes. Betsy DeVos, a billionaire Republican donor, is currently being sued by 18 states over student loan protections. Brenda Fitzgerald, the newest CDC chief (which monitors public health concerns), whose signature childhood obesity project was underwritten by Coca Cola. Scott Pruitt, head of EPA, sued EPA 14 times to help oil companies profit. Jeff Sessions, a racist on voting rights, punishing low-level abusers at highest level, promotes private prisons.
I’ll spare the rest (for now), but let us remind ourselves that Democrats are equally guilty here. They all take donations from insurance companies, ship hundreds of billions of weapons to the Saudis and attend the same parties (Chuck Shumer, George Soros with the Kushners and the Kochs).
Let’s face it – in reality, it is the corporate class anchored by the D’s and the R’s versus everyone else. The majority needs to come together and realize neither the R’s or the D’s respect the majority’s interest. All the D’s and R’s want is to get extremely wealthy and pass laws that benefit large corporations. The sooner the majority of the population can realize this is what America is, the sooner we can celebrate true freedom.
Furthermore, it is tough when the media is part of the establishment. The New York Times hires established journalists like Bret Stephens who does not represent the larger community. CNN is part of Time Warner Cable. MSNBC and FOX News are driven by stories to increase their viewership. Rachel Maddow and Sean Hannity will spin stories for viewership points. Whatever happened to the days where news was just news without the conservative or liberal spin? Only then when everyone gets fair, unbiased news can people make adequate decisions.
As it stands now, people believe whatever their tribalistic nature has already told them what to believe. Everything they hear or read, even if untrue or misleading, will help them solidify those predetermine views. Lastly, and very important, follow the money for reputable articles. Anyone with their hand in the cookie jar should be subjected to a heavy eye-roll and a wink. Wink. Wink.
