Brunswick needs an option that would reduce costs to us
To the Editor:
We went to a council’s public meeting on residential waste and recyclables. Over the weekend, my wife and I were thinking – why not take advantage of our “low tipping fees?” The city should consider an “option 4” that would reduce our costs instead of the current options that will increase our costs.
Option 4:
• Issue everyone a 96-gallon cart that would be for all trash (like now).
• Recycling would continue as is, voluntary to the drop-off places.
• Large or bulk items would require a call-in or run it once a month or once every two months.
• Automation would also reduce disabled trash men, speed up service and reduce cost.
Simple!
This would address the “ugly trash days, animals and blown trash everywhere.” With only one cart per address, this might encourage more recycling (this could be monitored and see if it increases).
Could there be an option to buy another cart? However, the city should have this option, but make the price high to encourage less trash and more recycling.
Present this option to the residences of Brunswick and I bet everyone would go for it and thank you for saving them money on a city service.
Why would you automate a process if it is going to cost you more?
