Trump in no way represents the ‘conservative values’
letter to the editor
To the Editor:

Partisan politics is turning our democracy into a world-class laughingstock. I'm reminded of an opinion letter I read in The Post last month where a poor soul lamented that he was laughed at when he suggested to some "liberals" that they should work with the "conservatives" and "give President Trump a chance." Join the club brother, I've been there and I know how it feels. It always feels a little bit different when the shoe is on the other foot, doesn't it?

The fiercest critics of Obama and Clinton, those who found fault with their every "liberal" word and action, are the very same people who are now defending Trump's every word and action in the name of "conservatism." I've got some news for y'all – Trump is not a "conservative" and never has been. And more importantly, Trump in no way represents the "conservative values." I was raised with "conservative values" and I know them when I see them and hear them, and my eyesight and hearing are still in pretty good shape.

While we bicker among ourselves over "conservative" and "liberal" talking points, the swamp in Washington grows in size and the swamp creatures get more and more despicable. Too many people are selling their souls cheaply, in the hope of getting their own special interests met, never mind that the views they hold are those of a distinct minority. Integrity is not axiomatic, it requires guts and fortitude.
