NORTH ROYALTON – Custom Color & Collision Center co-owners Mike and Andrea Florjancic are the embodiment of the quote by American author Mark Twain: “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
Mike has been a car enthusiast as far back as he can remember. Even when away from the shop, Mike can’t stop thinking about cars. In his spare time, he watches stock cars at Lorain County Speedway, a place where he raced in his younger days, and other local tracks. Custom Color & Collision Center sponsors five cars at area tracks.
“I was always fascinated with cars. That’s how this all got started,” Mike said. “I haven’t worked a day yet. If I didn’t do this, I don’t know what I would do.”
All makes and models
Custom Color & Collision Center does frame repairs and everything in between, including collision repair, rust work, panel replacement and restoration.
Custom Color & Collision Center does work on any make and model vehicle. The business has even done work on area police vehicles and ambulances in its ample 20-bay facility.
There are two computerized frame-straightening machines, in addition to a state-of-the art down draft, quick-cure paint booth.
Genuine OE (original equipment) parts are used whenever possible, even when an insurance company chooses aftermarket parts for a repair. The customer is the most important person in this client-business relationship.
Mike is not easily impressed but there was one vehicle, a custom Corvette, that came to Custom Color & Collision Center in June that really opened his eyes.
The owner first brought the car to the business three years ago when he hit a deer on York Road. This time the owner was heading back from a car show in Columbus when he hit a piece of tire in the road. Mike was able to make it shine again.
“There is nothing factory about this car,” Mike said. “The body panels, paint job, everything is custom about this car. I have no interest in owning a Corvette but this car is cool.”
Highest training in industry
The company’s motto is “Exceeding expectations since 1998.”
I-Car Gold Class is the highest training level achievable in the industry. Mike, Andrea, technicians and the repair center have achieved I-Car Gold Class.
“As technology changes new ways to repair cars becomes available, so recertification in that area is important,” Andrea said. “I have a new respect for what my husband and the technicians can do. It is absolutely amazing.”
“Every shop in this city can get a car to the curb. I want to see that car five years from now still looking the way it did when it left here. That’s our goal,” Mike said.
Envirobase waterborne paint system
Custom Color & Collision Center was the first collision center in the area using Envirobase, PPG’s highest quality waterborne paint system, which is cleaner and healthier for the environment. The shop emits up to 80 percent fewer volatile organic chemicals into the air.
“We use all PPG products start to finish. The waterborne product is for color,” Mike said. “We don’t use any other ‘brand X’ items along our refinish process. Ours is PPG from start to finish.”
“It’s a water-based versus a solvent-based paint,” Andrea said. “The paint matching is unbelievable. We thought it was good before, but we have had phenomenal results with the waterborne system. And health wise, it is better for our community and our employees.”
Giving back
Beginning in 2011, Custom Color & Collision Center became a supporter of breast cancer awareness. A portion of the proceeds from every repair goes directly to the organization to help in its fight against the disease.
“My mother fought a very hard 10-year battle with breast cancer. It took her life,” Andrea said. “No matter how much breast cancer awareness there is, there is not enough of it.”
Custom Color & Collision Center has also donated to the North Royalton High School Stadium Foundation, is a major supporter of the North Royalton Community Festival, sponsors youth sports programs and has sponsored the Parma Animal Shelter car show for the past 10 years.
