Looking Ahead Upcoming industry events LDI2011 October 24 – 30, Orlando —From Backstage Orlando to Backstage at Sea, LDI celebrates its 24th anniversary with over a week of professional training options that go hand-in-hand with the exhibit fl oor to create the industry’s largest trade show. Things kickoff on October 24 with Backstage Orlando, encompassing a performance of Cirque du Soleil’s resident show, La Nouba (with two new acts), plus Blue Man Group , theatre tours, and a day at Disney World culminating with the new projection show at Cinderella’s Castle. Live Design once again presents its highly successful Projection Master Classes with designer extraordinaire Abbey Rosen Holmes taking the helm as creative consultant for two days, October 26-27, at Full Sail University. The LDInstitute features hands-on console and software training plus expanded ETCP renewal credit opportunities in the Rigging and Electrical Boot Camp, as well as two courses presented in association with The ESTA Foundation. LDI renews its partnership with Technologies for Worship Magazine , with their pavilion on the show fl oor and a series of sessions appropriate for those who work in houses of worship as well as other permanent installations. The LDInnovation and Technology Conference sessions range from a lighting summit in the PRG Light Lab and Cables and Switches to the third annual Green Day produced in association with Showman Fabricators and the Broadway Green Alliance (plus the third annual Best Green Product Award). LDInstitute and Backstage Disney Day November 29 – December 7, Los Angeles —In conjunction with the Concert Master Class, don’t miss a week of essential training at the LDInstitute On The Road, including courses taught by A.C.T/ MA Lighting, TMB/Green Hippo, coolux/Pandoras Box, and the three-day PRG Institute. Another part of this weeklong road trip to Los Angeles is the second annual Backstage Disney Day at The Disneyland Resort on Friday, December 2, with a look at the exciting new expansion of California Adventure, including a special focus on Ariel’s Undersea Adventure. Discussions of the lighting, projection, audio, show control, and more are included at this state-of-the art theme park. Led by Disney’s team of creative experts, take an insider’s look at attractions and live events, starting before the park is open to the public in the morning. Includes lunch and dinner. PLASA Focus: Austin 2012 February 22 – 23, Austin —PLASA Events’ fi rst regional event in North America, PLASA Focus: Austin 2012, modeled after the highly successful PLASA Focus: Leeds (UK), will bring together members of the entertainment technology community to do business and network in a relaxed and friendly setting. The two-day show, to be held February 22-23 at the Renaissance Austin, TX, will be reasonably priced for exhibitors and free to registered visitors. A unique inclusive hard wall booth package—including furniture, power, and lighting—will level the playing fi eld and give exhibitors a simple and affordable exhibiting experience. The show’s regional focus will also allow exhibitors to reach visitors who might not attend larger industry events.
