W
E ARE a combined Sixth Form with
Southfield Technology College and
Stainburn School and Science College and
based on a purpose-built site for Post-16
Education.
It is one of a very few collaborative Sixth Forms
in the country. As a result of this arrangement we
are rich in teaching expertise and are able to offer
a wide and varied choice of A Level and Diploma
Courses. Our Centre offers a lively and stimulating
environment in which to continue studying.
All our 250 students are allocated a personal
tutor and have access to our extensive enrichment
programme including sport, arts activities, work
experience and young enterprise. These build on
the academic courses and provide many of the
skills needed for further study and employment.
We have been very successful at helping
students to obtain their preferred route into
Higher Education or employment through our
network of advisors from a number of
universities, the local business community and
Connexions.
We are proud of our Sixth Form which grows in
strength from year to year. From September we
are broadening our range of vocational provision
through the introduction of two of the new
Diplomas. These will be the Creative and Media
Diploma and the Manufacturing, Product and
Design Diploma. Both courses are equivalent to
three A Levels or more.

O YOU know that it takes specialised
personnel operating in over 50 different
trades to support and keep the RAF's
aircraft in the air?
Military aircraft need engineers to maintain
them, weapon technicians to arm them and air
traffic controllers to keep their airways open and
safe.
Communications experts process vital
information and computer-based data as
intelligence officers assess and decipher possible
threats.
Physical training instructors keep our service
men and women fit and master chefs make sure
they enjoy nutritious meals while our nursing
staff and medics are always on hand to provide
care in case of accident or emergency. All are
supported superbly by our logistic and
administration staff. Additionally, we need police
and regimental gunners to protect our people
and bases.
The RAF provide first class training with, in most
cases, civilian accredited qualifications. The list of
jobs performed by highly-skilled RAF personnel is
endless. And all benefit from excellent pay and
pension schemes with the added bonus of
unparalleled job security!
So you see, you don't have to train as a pilot to
enjoy a distinguished career in the Royal Air
Force.
