Bytheendoftheyear,however,theglobalcreditsqueezeandtheensuingrecessionhadsent
carsalesintofreefallandJLRwasfightingforcashandsurvival.
Sincethenthequietandunderstated48-year-oldWestMidlanderhasbeenforcedtopreside
overjobcuts,awagefreezeandtemporaryplantclosurerswhileatthesametimeattemptingto
persuadeadeafgovernmentthatJLRisactuallyabusinessworthhelpingintheshortterm.

CityarrangementswithWarwickUniversitybasedonAdvantageWestMidlandscapitalfunding,
resultingin�3millioninvestmentfortheUniversityofBirminghamHydrogenandFuelGroup.
HehasbeenamemberofAmericanInstituteofChemicalEngineerssince1995andacommittee
memberoftheFluidMixingProcessesSubjectGroup.

ProfJamesisalsochiefinvestigatorontherecentlyclosedchemoradiotherapytrialBC2001
whichisthelargestrandomisedtrialofradiotherapyinbladdercancer.
PreviouslycompletedworkincludesbeingchiefinvestigatorontheEPOCtrialcomparing
ZD4054withplaceboinearlymetastatichormonerefractoryprostatecancer,aswellasUKchief
investigatorforthepivotalTAX327studywhichledtothelicensingofDocetaxelinprostatecancer
treatment.
