1060 EUROMIX FEEDER
Content cattle, who are more settled in their housing, and finish off much quicker with better grading are the results
of Mr Sedgewick of Long Myers Farm, purchasing a Kuhn 1060 Euromix. "It was bought with the purpose of feeding
silage, straw, barley, rape and soya molasses to a 250 strong beef finishing herd. The mix is very palatable and we
can see a big difference in the cattle, they are a lot happier with their rations. The mixer does 3 loads per day at 6
tonnes per load and 6 loads a week feeding geld ewes. "The build quality of the Kuhn is very good and it is easy to
operate, and gives a first class mix, which helps a lot as we look after 970 acres, 750 of which are arable and the rest
grass, says Mr Sedgewick.
EUROMIX AND TWIN TUB
Edward and Rebecca Towers of Holme Head Farm 650 acres with
330 Dairy cows plus followers and Beef cattle, with a total herd
of 750. Edward tells me that they originally had a mixer wagon for
the cattle feed, but it was ready to change. One of the things they
particularly looked for was the height as many of their sheds have
sloping roofs. The Kuhn Euromix 1 fits the bill nicely. "Its added
benefits are holding more feed so less mixes, its height, it's wider and
longer, which makes it easier to load, and it takes less horsepower to
run, giving the added benefit of fuel saving," continues Edward."In
a day it will mix three loads for the milk cows, and 3 or 4 for the
young stock. The mix is very uniform and it chops well, when we are
using big bales for the dry cows. The tandem axle is much improved
and it is easy to reverse through narrow passageways. Kuhn have a
reputation for well built machinery and the Euromix is no exception,"
says Edward.
GA6501 RAKE
Farmer and contractor Mr Sharp of Lindal Cote Farm, where he farms 170 acres with beef, fattening cattle and sheep.
"I cut around 2,000 acres of silage and I purchased a Claas GA 6501 rake to supplement a previous Claas rake. They
are user-friendly, easy to maintain, make a good clean job and the two now allow me to do more in a day.
GF 5202 TEDDER
During last year's bad season having a Kuhn GF 5202 enabled Mr Read of Midtown Farm to cover
more ground faster and get his crop in . The four rotors helped to dry the crop and spread it well.
2060 FEEDER BEDDER
Brian Tailford saw the Kuhn 2060 bedder at the Rickerby Spring Show in 2008.
"I thought how much we could save on straw by using big square bales and being able to carry more back, this
would help us to store more straw in less space. The bedder uses less straw than we did manually and it saves time
on bedding down. It has two chute heights one higher and one lower for reaching into lower buildings. Brian and his
wife Gayle farm 800 acres with suckler cattle and sheep.
GF 8501 MH TEDDER
The Kuhn GF 8501 MH tedder has made a big difference to contractors A & B Taylor of Plumpton, their
previous tedder had 4 rotors but the crops were proving to heavy for it. Previous to the Kuhn we were picking
up 8 acres an hour with the old machine said Alan, "Now with the Kuhn we are picking up 20 acres an hour.
It has a much more even spread and follows the contours of the ground better, with its small diameter rotors,
which don't put as much strain on the gearing, due to its size we can go slower and still cover more ground
and make a better job. It never blocks up with trash which was a problem we had with the previous machine,
says Alan, who also has a Kuhn Plough
and Power Harrow.
3560 FEEDER BEDDER
250 acres are farmed at Welton by Richard and David Fawkes & sons. 120 acres
are sown down to grain and the rest is grass for grazing and silage. Suckled calves
are bought in at 10-12 months and grown on to finish, usually around 250-300
per year. Richard explained that they bought a Kuhn bedder in 2002 as at that
time, they were bedding
down a lot of bulls with round bales, and it was an occupation not without it's
dangers. They no longer have bulls in the present day. "We bought a 3560 Kuhn
bedder as we bed the cattle twice a day 365 days a year, so it is one of the most
important pieces of equipment on the farm. The time and labour which it saves are
paramount to the smooth running of the day to day jobs and after 6/7 seasons it
has given us no cause for concern., it is strongly constructed and easy to maintain,
and it has a better spread which makes it more economical on straw. " concludes
Richard.
