LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 91DINING OUTSituated in the popular village of
Caythorpe, The Red Lion offers visitors a
memorable dining experience. Having
undergone a minor exterior refurbishment,
this traditional country pub has much to
offer its visitors.
We recently enjoyed a meal at The Red
Lion and from walking in, we felt right at
home.
The cosy bar area provides the perfect
introduction with proprietor John Cork
offering guests a friendly welcome. After
choosing a drink we took a seat in the bar and
chose our food. You cannot fault The Red Lion
for its menu with such a varied selection of
starters and main courses. Simply looking at
the names is enough to make the mouth water.
After choosing our meals we were seated in
the smaller of the two restaurants. This warm
and cosy area is perfect for that intimate
dining experience with its contemporary
country cottage feel, real fire and wonderfully
ambient lighting.
Our starters were not long to arrive, I chose
the Hummus and Tzatziki dipping platter
while my partner opted for the Homemade
Fishcake in Tempura Batter. The fishcake
alone in presentation was an impressive
display of colour and taste in a beautifully
light batter. As for the dipping platter,
delicious would be an understatement, such a
fresh taste that simply cannot be matched.
For the main course I chose The Red Lion
Lincoln Red Beef Burger, served in a toasted
ciabatta bread with Lincolnshire Poacher
cheese, chips and a side salad. My partner
tried the steak served with onion rings, chips
and a crisp side salad. The burger was unlike
any I have ever tasted, packed with rich
flavour and a great crumbling texture, the
melted cheese offered a real taste of
Lincolnshire. My partner commented on how
his steak was 8220awesome8221 expressing how
difficult it is to find a chef who can cook one
exactly how you want it.
After being tempted by a flavoursome
dessert menu I chose a Mango and
Passionfruit Cheesecake while my partner
selected luxurious Chocolate Ice Cream. The
presentation of the dishes was remarkable to
say the least and complemented the flavours
flawlessly.
Visitors and regulars who frequent The Red
Lion are clearly impressed with the high
standards and this is evident in the
welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere.
Priding itself on friendly service, quality
cuisine, fine wines and excellent beers, the
Red Lion is without a doubt the place to be.
