Its world-famous coastline, warm climate, traditional fishing villages and sumptuous
local produce make Cornwall one of the most popular holiday destinations in the UK
Cornwall
S
uch is Cornwall's appeal that
visitors often return to explore
another part of the county they
haven't seen before. Golden, sandy
beaches are one of its main attractions,
but its rugged cliffs and great surf are
perfect for those looking for something
more exhilarating. The South West Coast
Path runs around the county, offering
walkers a bird's eye view of its famous
coastline. If you are lucky, you will spot
seabirds, seals, dolphins and even
basking sharks.
Cornwall's warm climate means that
exotic plants thrive here and a visit to
one of the many subtropical gardens is a
must, either to a National Trust property
or one of its many privately owned ones.
Truro, Fowey, Newquay, St Ives,
Padstow and Falmouth are all popular
holiday destinations, as they offer great
food, independent shopping and
entertainment. The more rural areas are
worth exploring too try the Lizard
peninsula, Bodmin for the moors, or
Bude in the north.
Pasties and clotted cream are
synonymous with Cornish fare but its
culinary scene is far more extensive. The
county is home to some of the finest
local producers and farm shops. With the
sea never far away, it is an important
region for seafood but its large farming
community means great meat too, with a
strong emphasis on organic produce.
There has been a rise in celebrity
chefs in Cornwall: Rick Stein has
numerous food outlets in Padstow, Jamie
Oliver has his Fifteen restaurant in
Watergate Bay, as well as other local
foodie stars including Nathan Outlaw
with his Michelin star restaurant in Fowey.
You will never be far away from a
festival, particularly during the spring and
summer months and holidays. Cornwall
is renowned for its May Day merriments,
literary, food and river festivals.
A visit to Cornwall makes the perfect
holiday and will leave you with plenty of
happy memories. You will definitely want
to go back.
Don't miss...
For a real taste of Cornwall, try and arrange your holiday to coincide with one of its
annual festivals. A visit to a beach is a must, as well as to a tropical garden. Buy some
local produce from a farm shop and make sure you have a picnic in one of Cornwall's
picturesque villages or on a harbour front.
