THE MIGHTY RAF base nearby has
always had a major influence on life in the
village of Marham, and the links between
the base and the village are as strong as
ever today.
While the middle school is in the village,
the first school is on the RAF camp, and
the ten-pin bowling alley next to the camp
is used by locals.
Marham may have had four pubs at one
time, but today there are none. Fortu-
nately, Marham, Bowls, Sports and Social
Club provides a vital facility in the village.
THE fourth consecutive RAF
Marham ten mile road race and
fun run will take place on Sun-
day, July 12, at Marham village.
Both the RAF Marham ten and
the one mile fun run are organ-
ised by members of RAF
Marham, in aid of the charity Out
and About and as part of the
Marham Village Fun Day.
The one mile fun run includes
all ages and if you have always
wanted to experience a mass
participation event while raising
money for charity, then this one
mile fun run is for you.
However, if you are a touch
more ambitious and feel there is
a budding Brendan Foster or
Paula Radcliffe in you, then try
the ten miler which includes a
lap of the RAF Marham airfield.
This is a fast course that offers
potential for achieving your PB.
The Marham Village Fun Day
will include a number of tradi-
tional children's rides, side-
shows for the young at heart,
children's quad bikes, food
stalls, beer tent, car boot sale,
demonstrations by the RAF
Marham bomb disposal team
(including specialist vehicles)
and a display by the RAF's Tacti-
cal Imagery Intelligence Wing.
One mile runners can enter on
the day, 10 mile runners need to
enter by July 10, 2009. Service
personnel and MOD civilians can
enter the ten mile road race on
the day subject to availability
and upon providing their ID
cards, paying 1 extra for late
registration.

HOLME, pictured
above, near to
Downham, is a tra-
ditional rural vil-
lage -- smaller,
quieter and lower
in profile, but still
has an active
school and its own
close-knit commu-
nity.
THE handsome village
green at the heart of
Shouldham gives the vil-
lage a very traditional feel
and makes a most
favourable first impres-
sion with visitors.
Appropriately, it has a
lovely old pub, The King's
Arms, which has been a
pub since the 18th cen-
tury.
It is a lovely, warm,
friendly building with log
fires in the winter, and
there is a large garden to
eat and drink in during
the summer months.
STOW Bridge and Stow Bar-
dolph are more or less on a line
with each other, but parts are
separated by the A10 and the
River Great Ouse.
Stow Bridge is also located
between the River Great Ouse
and the Cut Off Channel.
To the east of Stow Bridge
and the A10, is the neighbouring
village of Stow Bardolph, with
the popular local visitor attrac-
tion, Church Farm Rare Breeds
Centre.
A very unusual feature in the
village is in the Norman church
at Stow Bardolph, where you will
find the Hare chapel, with its col-
lection of family monuments and
unique waxworks of Sarah Hare,
the only such figure outside of
Westminster Abbey.
