Wedding couple are
celebrities for a day
A
couple with strong
links to Carlisle have
had their wedding
featured in a celebrity
magazine.
Photographs from Howard Sims
and Christine Fisher's wedding
on the idyllic island of St Lucia
appeared in the January 6 edition
of Hello!
The couple lived in Carlisle
until last summer. Howard was
chief executive of Cavaghan &
Gray and until he retired in
September was managing director
of UNIQ plc UK while Christine
was an anaesthetic nurse at the
Cumberland Infirmary and then
school nurse at Austin Friars St
Monica's school. They now live in
Newcastle.
Their photographer in St Lucia
was so pleased with their wedding
photographs that he decided to
send them in to Hello! magazine
to be featured in the Hello! You
section.
It was important to Howard and
Christine that their wedding was
an intimate occasion and so they
jetted off to the tranquil location
of St Lucia.
As both have been married
before they wanted to celebrate
their wedding on their own.
Christine said: "It was
important to us to be alone as our
commitment and vows to one
another were of paramount
importance to us. It was an idyllic
setting, very special and quite
beautiful."
On their return from St Lucia
they celebrated their wedding
with family and close friends at a

Intimate: The wedding of Christine and Howard Sims who
were married in St Lucia
IT'S a familiar enough
problem in the whirl of the
wedding the bride and groom
hardly have any time to speak
to their guests.
Now, one frustrated bride
with no time to chat has come
up with a potential solution
so that other newlyweds.
Northern Irish bride Claire
Forbes has designed a
`virtual' guest book to give
married couples the chance to
hear everyone's best wishes
after the hubbub of the
wedding has died down.
The Belfast-based interior
designer's guest book allows
family and friends to record
their personal video message
during the reception so the
bride and groom can watch
them later at their leisure.
It has a touch screen and
guests can wipe the message
clean if they are not happy
with it and start again.
Romance in
a recession
DESPITE the economic
gloom, there could be a
record number of weddings
in 2009.
Figures from the Office for
National Statistics reveal
that the marriage rate
increases significantly
around periods of recession.
It is thought that couples
seek increased social
security during times of
financial uncertainty.
In the last century, the
biggest surge in the marriage
rate came in 1940 triggered
by the start of World War
Two.
The credit crunch should
mean more couples tying the
knot this year because
individuals staying at home
rather than going out for the
evening means relationships
develop more quickly..
Greetings: Claire Forbes
with her virtual guestbook
wedding blessing at their second
home in the Algarve, Portugal.
After the blessing at St. Luke's
Church, Palagheira they enjoyed a
champagne reception in the
restaurant adjacent to the church,
Le Marquis.
The couple were delighted to
see themselves appear in Hello!
