KIMBOLTON - 9th March
S
unday 9th March 2008 saw the end of
an era as Hunts Kart Race Club's winter
championship reached a conclusion.
With the track being re-surfaced in April this
was the last chance for drivers to race on the
current layout.
Dave Stimpson took the early lead in the
Rotax177VeteranfinalandTimPenstone-Smith
powered into 2nd ahead of Paul Darrington
and Frank Kolasky. On lap five Darrington
took over at the front and then he and Stimpson
swapped places throughout. On the final lap,
as they raced to the Bus Stop, Penstone-Smith
went into the lead and crossed the line 1st
ahead of Stimpson and Darrington.
In the opening laps of the Comer/Honda
Cadet final Harry Webb and Toby Sowery
scrapped for the Comer Cadet lead. On lap four
Sowery got his nose in front and pulled away.
Charlie Savage and Hannah Pym passed Webb
on lap six but Webb moved back into 3rd before
the last lap board went out. Comer Novice
Matthew Davies finished in 10th. In the Honda
class Novice George Morris started well and
finished 4th. Jack Partridge was next to lead
but dropped to the back and Bradley Peck
went into the top spot. Partridge soon moved
back up to 2nd and, when Peck was held up by
a backmarker, retook the lead. Chad Shiner
came home in 3rd.
The Minimax drivers had a hailstorm to
contend with in the last couple of laps but by
then Sam Ward had the race in the bag. Louie
Marshall successfully wrestled the runner-up
spot from Aaron Charles.
Polesitter William Hillyard led the Junior
Rotax MAX final until, with just two laps to go,
his equipment let him down. Jake Parker was
the only driver able to keep anywhere near
Hillyard and inherited the win.
Oliver Hodgson and Daniel Butcher-Lord
contested the Junior TKM lead, Butcher-Lord
got his nose in front briefly, but Hodgson
recovered to win fairly comfortably.
In the first two laps of the Senior Rotax
MAX final Marc Dawson gained a 2s lead and
went on to take victory. Paul Walsh and Ashley
Taylor did their best to keep up. Walsh finished
2nd but Josh Parker took over 3rd place with
three laps to go.
Will Waterman resisted Michael Cornell's
challenge to take a lights-to-flag win in TKM
Extreme. On lap eight Jack Kemp passed Adam
Jenkins for 3rd.
Several of the front runners in Rotax 177
were tangled up on the first corner and Tony
Lovell found himself in the lead. On lap three
polesitter Scott Clee took over at the front and
Lovell continued in 2nd to the flag. Tim Penton
made a great recovery from 10th to finish 3rd
and recorded the fastest lap.
Victory in the 250 Gearbox final went to Ron
Stamp as he crossed the line with a lead of over
8s. Martin Goodliffe and Steve Burton were
the only other finishers.
From the start of the 125 Gearbox final
James Holman had his hands firmly on the
winner's trophy. Jake Green followed Holman
throughout to finished 2nd and Richie Schmitz
took 3rd from Paul Lawson.

OPEN ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIP
6th April
T
here were severe weather warnings
on the 6th April and it was doubtful
if round two of the Open Endurance
Championship at Daytona Milton Keynes
would take place. Fortunately the track was
clear, although the snow was settling on the
grass. Sunshine greeted the thirteen teams
that made it and the forecast was that it would
be clear for the remainder of the day.
KKC took pole position, with Appliance 2nd
and the Biland of Saxon 1 in 3rd. KKC made
a great start and led the field into turn one.
Box Tech, who started 4th, moved past Saxon
1 then dived up the inside of Appliance to take
2nd. After thirty minutes the track was drying
and teams started to pit for a tyre change.
KKC's lengthy delay in the pits dropped them
back to 4th. Box Tech, who had held 2nd since
the start, took the lead. After all the teams had
completed their first stop Box Tech were 1st,
Appliance 2nd and TT Sport 3rd.
At the two hour mark Box Tech held a one
lap lead over Red Max, who had moved through
the field to take 2nd and Appliance had dropped
back to 3rd. Saxon 1 and 2 gradually moved up
the leader board as their lap times tumbled and
by the three hour mark they had moved up to
3rd and 4th with only Red Max and Box Tech
ahead. Box Tech took the win by two laps from
Red Max and Saxon 1 took the final podium
position.

DUNKESWELL - 27th April
A

sun broke through at Dunkeswell Kart
Club's meeting on the 27th April the
rain came down for the start of the finals. The
eight different classes were contested by one
hundred and ten drivers including nineteen
Novices. The meeting also included a visit
from the 210 National Villiers and it was an
awesome sight seeing nineteen of these classic
karts racing on the long circuit at Dunkeswell.
