YOUR OASIS CAMEL CENTRE SUMMER
SAVER VOUCHER IS ON PAGE 42
AWARD-winning sandy beaches, safe
bathing and a better than average
helping of sunshine all contribute to
making Lowestoft a particularly wel-
coming holiday destination.
It's the most easterly point, geographically, in
the country during the summer months, the first
to greet the sunshine every day in the main holi-
day season.
TWO PIERS
Lowestoft has two piers, The South Pier and
The Claremont Pier, which both provide tradition-
al seaside entertainment, eating places and
themed bars.
The beaches north and south of the Claremont
Pier regularly win cleanliness awards and are
considered to be some of the best in northern
Europe.
At the centre of Lowestoft, you can discover a
once-flourishing port, two yacht marinas, fish
market and docks and traditional smokehouses,
together with a Heritage Vessel Mooring which
has a changing programme of visiting craft
throughout the year.
ENTERTAINMENT
Lowestoft has a lively entertainment line-up,
with live shows and cinemas and a full calendar
of events during the summer.
There is entertainment at the Sparrow's Nest
Gardens, boat trips on Oulton Broad, and a Road
Train daily from South Pier to Kensington
Gardens.
The Marina Theatre in the town provides a
number of high quality acts throughout the year
THERE are more animals, more
fun attractions and more interest-
ing things to do at the Oasis
Camel Centre, which can be
found between Harleston and
Halesworth, adjacent to the
B1123 road.
The centre specialises in
camelids, and you can be pic-
tured with the Bactrian camels,
which are friendly, well-trained
and handleable. In fact you might
be pictured with a film star, as
the camels have appeared in
films and publicity shoots.
Relations of the camels at the
centre include llamas (there is
llama trekking, which can be pre-
booked), alpacas and guanacos.
Other animals at the centre
include several types of goats
and rare breeds of poultry and
sheep, together with donkeys
and ponies.
In the petting barn,where you
can join in the cuddle a pet and
feeding sessions, the small crea-
tures include rabbits, guinea
pigs, ferrets and birds.
There are two adventure play
areas, one for the tots and anoth-
er for the more energetic, as well
as a mini maze, bouncy castle,
pedal cars and crazy golf, plus
educational talks and shows.
A land train takes visitors
around the farm.
Special event days are held
from time to time, including
sheep racing. (Please call or
email for more details and dates).
There are picnic spots, a new
refreshment area and an interest-
ing shop selling unusual gifts.
and is the eastern home to the
internationally-acclaimed Royal
Philharmonic Orchestra.
SHOPPING
The Britten Centre is a covered
and pedestrianised shopping
arcade lined with bright modern
stores; and the East Point Pavilion
is the centre for entertainment and
happy holiday fun for all the family.
It is home to the Mayhem children's
indoor adventure area.
The Pavilion also features a
restaurant and tea room, and hous-
es the Tourist Information Centre
and a souvenir shop.
SEAFRONT AIR
FESTIVAL
Lowestoft Seafront Air Festival is
on Thursday and Friday, July 23-
24, providing a spectacular aerial
display that brings in many thou-
sands of visitors.
Over the years it has developed
into a major event, and with the
ever-increasing numbers who turn
up to see the show, it is wise to
allow plenty of time to get into
Lowestoft and get your car parked,
otherwise you could miss some of
the action.
