REINHARD'S CURIOS
ROMANY
DAY OUT
THE Gordon Boswell Romany Museum at Clay
Lake, Spalding, has a unique collection of superb
traditional Romany horse-drawn vardos (cara-
vans), carts and harness.
There's a large and comfortable lecture room
for a slide-show and talk on the Romany Way of
Life.
On display is the largest collection of Romany
photographs and sketches covering the last 150
years. There is also a fortune-telling tent and a
collection of cooking utensils used on the open
fire.
Experience a Romany day out in a horse-
drawn Romany Vardo, with a steak meal cooked
over a traditional Romany stick fire in the beauti-
ful Lincolnshire countryside. Enjoy two-to-three
hours sitting around the stick fire and relish the
peace and quiet.
Harness up for your return journey to the
museum. The special day lasts approximately six
hours, and can take a maximum of six people.
Or you can enjoy a carriage drive for an hour
or two, stepping back into a slower way of life.
The museum has ample parking for cars, and
coaches are welcome by appointment.
Disabled visitors welcome.

That is why visitors

acres of the Baytree

It is a plant-lover's
paradise. Yet when
Reinhard Biehler, the
man behind the
Baytree miracle,
arrived in this country
from Bavaria in 1962,
he was virtually penni-
less.
All he had was a few
essentials that could
be carried on a motor
scooter, plus a reputa-
tion as the fastest rose
budder in the west,
capable of budding
around 7,150 roses a
day.
The dream of
Baytree nurseries
began 38 years ago
when he started a
smallholding with a lit-
tle hut on the side of
the A151 with his

THE quirkiness of Baytree Nurseries has
won a top award for innovation by a lead-
ing trade organisation.
Proprietor Reinhard Biehler's love of
the unusual took the eye of the judges in
the Garden Centre Association competi-
tion with their `outstanding achievement
for being different' competition.
Over the years, Reinhard (pictured here)
has collected a host of fascinating
curios, including twenty red ex-GPO tele-
phone boxes, giant bellows that were
used in the film Hudson Hawk starring
Bruce Willis, a replica of a tank used in
the first Gulf War, and a Scottish lifeboat
with an impressive history of sea res-
cues.
