NOT ONLY has King's Lynn rapidly
grown into a powerful regional
shopping centre in recent years
with its re-vamped town centre and
extensive retail estates, but all the
signs point to even more growth,
with more choice for shoppers.
News that Sainsbury's are planning for a
major new store at Hardwick is coupled with
revelations that this would lead to further devel-
opment at the Vancouver Centre in the town.
The rebirth of the Vancouver Centre in a 50
million development has been the success story
of the 21st century in Lynn.
Together with the building of the multi-storey
car park and the arrival of a whole host of new
shops, it has made King's Lynn a cherished des-
tination for local shoppers, with a dramatic rise
in footfall figures for the town centre.
While the Vancouver Centre now boasts many
big names of national prominence, the estab-
lished streets around it --High Street, Norfolk
Street, Tower Street and St James Street in par-
ticular -- have a terrific variety of smaller, spe-
cialist businesses that are always worth seeking
out.
The centre of King's Lynn is remarkably com-
pact, so it's really no problem to make the effort
to explore it thoroughly -- and you will be
pleased with what you find. The opening of the
St James multi-storey car park was a welcome
boost to the shopper parking capacity in the
town and its proximity to the main shopping
areas takes a lot of hassle out of your visit.
While the town centre has blossomed, the
retail parks on the Hardwick approaches to town
continue to offer more and more, the big event
of recent years being the opening of the B and
Q DIY store.
If this is your first visit to the town, take a
good look round. We hope you enjoy what you
find.
The River Great Ouse widens out to form a natural harbour next to the quayside at King's Lynn.
