World of Golf's Gary Marks
created a new course record
at Epsom Golf Club last month
when he fired a four under
par 66 in a special tournament
held to celebrate the club's
30th Pro-Am anniversary.
The record came about
following the introduction
of four new tees, which has
considerably lengthened the
course. Following an evening
barbeque and disco, club
captain David Tarbet said:
"The success of the day
was due to the hard work of
the member volunteer's of
Epsom and was a fantastic
advertisement for the club.
I'm delighted that my chosen
charity, Rainbow Trust
Children's Charity will benefit
from the money raised."If you are faced with the onerous duty of organising your company's
next golf day, or you are shouldering the responsibility of selecting
courses on a more regular basis for a golf society, then Golf

staff offer first class tuition
that covers all levels from
the novice golfer, top
amateur players, budding
tour professionals and
beyond through group and
individual lessons.
Mitchell said: "This is a
really exciting opportunity
for the academies and me
personally. To set up an
academy in the very area
of Kent that I started out
my professional golf career
is a dream come true. The
coaching staff at Pedham
are all first-class PGA
qualified professionals and
are headed up by former
Kent Open Champion and
European Tour Player, Tim
Milford. Mitchell added:
"They will provide the best
tuition for all levels of golfer
and I aim to make the
academy the number one
venue for teaching, career
advice, nutrition, club fitting
and repairs in the UK.
Pedham Place is
operated by Pentland Golf,
whose chief executive,
Jonathan Callister, spoke
of his delight at having
the support of such a
well-respected coach as
Mitchell. He said: "We are
delighted to have secured
the services of the Peter
Mitchell Golf Academy, in
what is a very exciting
time for the centre.
Peter and his team join
at a time when we are
embarking on building
a new clubhouse and
further investment
of 1.35 million. The
confidence we have to
do this in these difficult
economic times is a credit
to the team at Pedham."
ESN to host Mansell charity bash
Former Formula 1 legend
Nigel Mansell is to host
his own golf event at East
Sussex National Resort
later this year, and the
self-confessed golf nut is
looking for teams to join
him to help raise vital funds
for UK Youth, a charity that
is close to his heart.
The three-day Nigel
Mansell UK Youth Golf
Classic is being staged at
the Uckfield-based club
from October 2, with teams
of four competing for the
Prince Michael trophy.
"I'm thrilled that this
event is taking place again
this year, and especially
at such a prestigious
venue as East Sussex
National," said the 1992
F1 world champion. "It's
ideally suited to hosting
such a big event as it
not only has two great
courses, but it also gives
us the opportunity to host
a world-class trick shot
show and a gala dinner
and cabaret in the evening
for all our guests."
Since retiring from motor
racing in 1995, Mansell has
divided his time between
his two sporting passions,
golf and sailing, setting up
Woodbury Park Golf Club
in Devon along the way.
He once harboured hopes
of joining the European
Seniors' Tour, but is now
content to compete as
an amateur. The prices
for a team of four cost
1,500, including golf, the
gala dinner and cabaret
and prizes sponsored by
Callaway Golf.
