KENTSCHOOLS
WIN PLACE IN
REGIONAL ARTS
PROGRAMME.
Youth scheme to help
local students brush
up on art skills.
Two Kent-based schools
have fought off fierce
competition to be selected
for SEGRO'sYoungArtists
programme for 2009.
Schools throughout the
South-East of England
were invited to apply for
a place in the scheme and,
at a launch event held on
Friday (28 November), the
ten winning applications
were unveiled including
St Anselm's Catholic
School in Canterbury and
Folkestone Academy.
Now in its second year,
the initiative is designed
to create exciting
opportunities for school
children to work closely
with their teachers and
practising artists, in order
to inspire and develop their
talent for art.
St Anslem's Catholic
School and Folkestone
Academy will get to
experience working with
artists Andy Merritt and
Linda James during the
spring term, and will
produce artwork themed
around the `world of
work'. The artwork can
be produced in any format,
including digital media, but
must be suitable for display
in a business setting.
Each of the schools will
then have their work
exhibited at a prestigious
London venue next June.
A select few will also have
their work purchased by
SEGRO and displayed
throughout the company's
European offices.
The following schools
have also been selected
to participate in the
programme:
 Cheney School -
Headington, Oxford

on young people's creative
success, which often goes
unnoticed. Through the
SEGRO Young Artists
Programme we are helping
to provide an opportunity
for young people to realise
their creative potential. By
celebrating young people
and engaging schools
with artists and galleries,
we hope to inspire a new
generation to take up art
and design."

programme unique is
that the young people
get involved in planning
their own work and get
the chance to work on a
live brief. It is very much
based around nurturing
partnerships with young
people leading their own
learning to help grow and
build their confidence."
