switched on and the
superb Christmas

magical it all is.

As the Edinburgh
Wheel starts turning
and reaches for the
sky, skaters take to
the ice at the Winter

onderland in

rinces Street
Gardens, and the
Gluhwein flows at
the traditional
German Christmas
Market. Now Edinburgh
is putting the fest in festive

Gardens for three
days of events
attracting thousands
of celebrators of St
Andrew8217s Day.
Main events will be
staged from 1-11pm
on the Day itself,
November 30, but
the arena stays open
over the weekend.
The Jig in the
Gardens event,
organised by the
Scottish
Government, will be
the highlight of
many special St
Andrew8217s Week
festivities in the
city, including
concerts, ceilidhs,

The
city8217s world-famous
Hogmanay opens
with a ceremonial
torchlight procession
and spectacular
celebration of fire
and music on
December 29.
Thousands of
burning torches, led
by a symbolic
wooden longboat,
make their way
through the city on
a stunning event
reminiscent of the
traditional Viking
celebrations. And
indeed, after starting
at Parliament
Square near St Giles
Cathedral (and
making its way
down the Mound
and along Princes
Street to Calton Hill)
it culminates with
the burning of a
wooden long boat 8211
and other fireworks.
