Rachel GreenThe Tastes of Lincolnshire have revealed some
fantastic producers on our doorstep, how does it
feel to be championing the programme?
I feel extremely honoured as we really have
something to shout about in Lincolnshire. British
agriculture has had to diversify and the county has
adapted fantastically producing high quality meat,
cheeses, milk, chocolate and even coffee! There is
a growing amount of independent farm shops and
restaurants that are becoming ever more popular as
people seek fresh homegrown produce.
You must have met some very interesting people
along your travels. Are there any highlights?
Mary Powell, who runs the Tastes of Lincolnshire,
has recently been awarded an MBE, which I am
delighted about. She has taken Lincolnshire out of
the county and spread the word about the fantastic

some of your memories as a
child being brought up on a
Lincolnshire farm?
Food, and good food! My mother
was a great cook, and forty years ago,
it was a rarity for anything to be
imported. My father was a firm
believer that the produce of the
country and county was as good as
anything from abroad. At the age of
five, I remember my mother making a
Spaghetti Bolognese, which was
certainly not a common dish at that
time! I have vivid memories of the
killing and preserving of pigs on the
farm, and helping with chores such as
scrumping the radishes. Lincolnshire

hundreds of quality restaurants,
serving up excellent local produce. We
