lead me to the quiet beach, where
as in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's
Vulgaria, not a child could be seen.
Thankfully, this is a very
child-friendly resort, with many
families taking advantage of the
free creche or sunbathing
together on the main beach.
Turkey is a delightful mix of East
and West, modern and ancient,
and is a fascinating place to visit.
One day, I head out on my own
to explore the breathtaking views
of the Taurus Mountains, arriving
at Fethiye, the town that gives the
coastline its name.
Vendors vie to sell me gold rings
and carpets in the traditional
bazaar-like market, and brightly
covered bars and shaded
restaurants are on every corner.
Returning to the resort, I relax
on my balcony, with its elegant,
pale stone tiles and big sofa, to
watch the sunset.
Best of all are the fluffy pillows
and the flower petals artfully
strewn across my bed's crisp,
white sheets.
Finally, an afternoon yacht trip
around Fethiye's large, enclosed
bay and 12 small islands was the
perfect way to end my stay.
We stop off at secluded coves to
swim in the sea and enjoy the
dramatic cliff faces and dazzling
sun, all sense of time lost.
Some islands have just one
restaurant, with a few boats
moored nearby.The coastline is a
revelation after the built-up feel
of much of the Mediterranean.
This is as close as I'll ever come
to living the sybaritic life of a
luxury yacht island-hopper, sipping
wine on deck while a six-strong
crew does all the work.
Best of all,Turkey's value for
money and the resort's all-inclusive
rates mean you don't have to break
the bank to stay there.
