HETHER you want an
activity-packed break,
a family holiday or just
need an excuse to spend the kids'
inheritance, the Hillside Beach
Club on Turkey's Fethiye coast is
the ideal place to be.
It even looks good from the air,
as I discover while parasailing for
the first time over the south
Aegean Sea.
Watersports are just one of
many activities at this exclusive
idyll, which has its own private bay
and is surrounded by pine-covered
hills.The Greek island of Rhodes is
just 90 minutes away, while ancient
Lycia and the ruins of classical
Ephesus beckon inland.
After the parasailing and an
exhilarating speedboat trip, I
decide to try out the
wakeboarding � but perhaps I
should have remembered how the
gods treat such reckless
confidence.
I do eventually manage to get
upright as the boat drags me
along, but blink and you might
have missed me.
Thankfully, a traditional massage
at the resort's Balinese-style spa,
built like hanging gardens on the
side of the hill, ministers
much-needed relief to my
aching arms and shoulders.
I'd like to think I was not the
only high-octane athlete
recovering at the luxury resort,
as there seemed to be a
suspicious number of jet-set types
relaxing in the beach-side bar.
One tall, handsome man, with a
glamorous companion and
cherubic baby, turned out to be a
Turkish basketball star resting after
the European championships.
