moored at South
Quay as a floating
museum.
Built in 1930, she
was dry-docked in
2000, when it was
discovered the hull
had rusted so badly it
was not safe to put
her back in the water.
But a Heritage
Lottery Fund grant of
�839,000 has resulted
in extensive restora-
tion and the Lydia Eva
floated again for the
first time in March
2008.

The recently-refurbished Market
Gates shopping mall is an appeal-
ing route from Regent Road to the
Market Place -- even though you
are likely to linger here longer than
you might have been planning
(never mind, there's always another
day).
When you do arrive at the
Market Place, you will find what is
reckoned to be one of the largest
open air markets in the country --
an attraction on its own for many
thousands of visitors, as well as
locals, who enjoy the friendly
atmosphere and the opportunity to
seek out a bargain.
Be sure to take in Victoria
Arcade, where olde worlde charm
combines with a variety of interest-
ing shops and cafes.
