70 First in the World for 48 years KARTING magazine
The youngest drivers were a credit to the
meeting, no penalty sheets for the HONDA
CADET class, although two parents ran it
close at the end. Freddie Lee put down an
early marker with the first heat win, Connor
Jupp and Connor Mills taking the other
two. But it was Ashley England and Jessica
Hawkins, the top two seeds, who lined up at
the front for the Final.
It was England, Lee, Hawkins and Jupp who
came round first, then a gap to Robert Holland
who had the pace to join in. Mills and Jack
Mitchell had both been off and were now well
down. It was just such a tremendous dice, with
England losing the lead to Lee three times,
and plenty of swapping behind. Never giving
up, Lee showed presence beyond his years
and snatched the lead back on the last lap.
"When Ashley was leading I sussed out where
he was a bit slower than me, and although he
has more experience I knew I could do him"
said the exultant winner. And England added
"I just didn't defend enough and Freddie got
his nose in." Holland claimed 3rd with Jupp a
hairsbreadth ahead of Hawkins on the line.
