Golf News: "The range at
Pedham is a first-class
facility, and with the
upgrading of new range
balls is now I believe the
premier range in the area. I
only wish I had this facility
all those years ago when I
first started playing."
Pedham Place, situated
in Swanley, is currently
going through a period of
expansion and upgrading
of its facilities, which
includes the building of a
new 1.3 million clubhouse.
The Peter Mitchell Golf

by Peter Mitchell, who is
enjoying a superb start to
his European Seniors' Tour
career, with three wins in
his debut season in 2008.
In the last few years
Peter has concentrated on
his coaching career and
has worked with numerous
Ryder Cup players, as well
as amateur golfers. Peter's

Essex youngster Oliver Fisher booked
his place in his first ever Open
Championship after grabbing one
of 10 places available on offer at the
international qualifying tournament
held at Sunningdale on June 7. But the
20-year-old from West Essex, had to
battle through a six-man play-off before
booking his place at Turnberry, after
tieing for sixth place with Mark Foster,
Danny Willett, Richie Ramsay, Peter
Lawrie and Taco Remkes.
Fisher and Ramsay were the last men
standing, after Remkes bogeyed the
first hole to drop out and then Lawrie
double-bogeyed the short second and
Willett bogeyed it to leave three fighting
for two places. Ramsay sank a 12-foot
birdie putt on the third hole and Fisher
pitched to within three feet at the next to
knock out Foster. It was just reward for
Fisher, who had failed on three previous
occasions to pre-qualify for The Open.
The 36-hole event was jointly won by
Graeme Storm, who shot a record
eight-under 62 on the New Course, and
Argentine Rafa Echenique, with both
players shooting 10-under par.
Also winning a place at Turnberry
was Scotland's David Drysdle, who
finally succeeded at the ninth time of
asking. The 34-year-old's only previous
experience of The Open was in 1992,
when he played as a marker for John
Daly. Drysdale shot rounds of 65 and
66 over the Old and New Courses at
Sunningdale, the latter of which included
a hole-in-one at the 2010-yard 10th.
