Queen Elizabeth's
Grammar School
A Brinscall pupil was among the 15 boys and girls
from Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School to achieve
one of the top grades, Grade A* or A, in all 10 sub-
jects they sat in this year's GCSE examinations.
Arham Akhter was delighted at the news he received.
Eleven other pupils at the Blackburn school were
awarded eight or nine subjects at the top two grades,
including Lutfi Al-Nufoury from Chorley and Jessica
Maidment from Preston.
The school's overall pass rate at grades A* to E was
99.6%, with 97% of QEGS pupils gaining a minimum
of five subjects at grades A* to C, higher than in re-
cent years.
Seven subjects saw 100% A* to C grades; art, design
technology, drama, German, Geography, music and
Spanish.
Headmaster Simon Corns said: "These results show a
good improvement with nearly one paper in five taken
by QEGS pupils being awarded the highest grade.
"Our girls have again done well, with three girls
among those passing all their subjects at Grade A* or
A, but a large number of boys also feature among our
high achievers."
Leyland St Mary's
PUPILS at Leyland St Mary's celebrated some outstanding
results.
Top students include Gary Swift who achieved 10 A* grades
including physics, chemistry and biology as well as two Advanced
level qualifications at grade B.
John Bromiley achieved seven A* grades including the three
sciences and four A grades and Julia Woodhouse scored six A*
grades and five grade As.
John Preston excelled in ICT achieving a distinction in his
National Diploma as well as five A* grades and three A grades.
Head Boy, Jake Dewhurst, and Head Girl, Lauren Hemmingfield,
achieved an impressive collection of A* and A grades with 18 top
grades between them.
Headteacher, Mr Michael Wright, said he was delighted with the
results, which saw 74 per cent of the students achieving five or
more GCSEs at grade C or above over 60 per cent of the pupils
achieved the benchmark figure including English and maths.
He added: "We had some fantastic students this year and our top
10 pupils achieved over 100 A* and A grades between them."
Lostock Hall High School and Arts College
LOSTOCK Hall High School and Arts Col-
lege head David Lowe was "delighted" with
the amazing results of his top class pupils.
Between them they notched up 63 per cent
A* to C grades and 58per cent including
English and maths.
Among the bright sparks was Jodie Renshaw
who got A* in English language and
geography, five As and a B.

plans to train to become a laser optometrist
and study dyslexia.

As, two Bs and a C while Tom Martin

Year 11 pupils celebrate their GCSE results at Lostock Hall High
Penwortham
All Hallows
Catholic
High School
"BRILLIANT" was how
Penwortham All Hallows
Catholic High School
headteacher Chris Riding
described his Year 11s.
The youngsters put on a
show stopping perform-
ance with the majority of
the students getting at
least 10 passes.
More than 30 scooped 11
passes and a handful
achieved 12 passes.
Mr Riding said: "It has
been a very, very good year
and I am absolutely
delighted that for the eight
consecutive year more than
80 per cent of pupils have
achieved at least five A* C
GCSE passes."
He added: "The value
added percentage is up as
well, which is marvellous
because as a comprehen-
sive school it shows that
pupils across the board are
achieving."
Rossall School, Fleetwood
CORE subjects of English and maths scores
were particularly good for Rossall School,
Fleetwood, in this year's GCSE results.
Science A-grades were also encouraging, as
more students opted for the traditional sub-
ject areas for GCSE.
In English, the school recorded a 51% pass
rate A*-A grades, 40% A*-A in maths and
43% A*-A across all three science subjects.
Overall there was a 99% pass rate, though
A*-C grades were down from the 2008 high
of 92% to 85%.
This is said to be due to changes in the
BTEC in Public Services, grades for which
were last year included in the GCSE figures.
It is now only available to year 12 students.
Individual performances were also impres-
sive with 42% of students achieving A*-A
grades across all subjects.
Senior mistress Jean Briggs said: "It's unfor-
tunate that the change in the age for BTEC
Diploma caused an anomaly in our A*-C
grade percentage this year, but our overall
performance is as strong as ever."
