IN a classic coals to Newcastle/
sand to the Arabs tale, Honda has
started exporting its British-built
Civic Type-R three-door hot hatch
to Japan.
The marque's home market has
been desperate to get the futuris-
tic looking scorcher (see Star
Drive on Motors TV at www.cars-
forkent.co.uk) following successful
launches in two other right-hand
drive markets, Australia and
South Africa, earlier this year.
The three and five-door Civic
body styles were originally con-
ceived as European and UK
only models, but the Type-R's mix
of the free-revving 199bhp i-
VTEC engine, tenacious grip and
radical styling has caught the
imagination of Honda fans across
the globe.
Many commentators had criti-
cised the Type-R as less fun to
drive than its lighter predecessor,
but this latest move shows the
current car has far more style and
kerb appeal.

PEUGEOT'S new 3008 crossover is now in showrooms
to attack Nissan's highly successful Qashqai.
With its classy blend of MPV, SUV and family hatch
styling and load-carrying versatility the French new-
comer is a clever `niche-buster'.
And while there is no actual 4x4 option for now �
unlike the Nissan � a clever hybrid with electric motors
powering the rear wheels is due in a year or so and
there is also a cost-effective �450 Grip Control feature
on the current line-up.
This advanced traction control system, allied to
special mud and snow tyres, mimics the powers of a
modest 4x4 or `soft roader' when towing or tackling
trickier conditions.
Peugeot demonstrated its power with a glider launch
stunt (see video on Motors TV at www.carsforkent.co.uk)
requiring serious pulling power.
Prices for the new 3008 range: �15,995-21,895.
`Niche-buster' glides into showrooms
KIA launched the funky Soul earlier this year with a range
of `Originals' � limited edition versions of the crossover.
The Korean brand also vowed to refresh the Originals
line-up regularly to make the most of the distinctive car's
lines; the first change is the new Soul Tempest (from
�12,845), which replaces the Samba.
The Tempest comes in Titanium Silver with black
high-gloss bumper inserts and door mirrors, black 18-inch
alloys and Kia's reversing camera inset within the rear
view mirror.
The Soul range starts from �10,775.
