HILLSIDE Animals and Shire Horse Sanctuary
offers visitors the chance to meet heavy horses,
ponies and donkeys.
There are also sheep, pigs, rabbits, ducks,
hens, goats, and many more rescued animals in
their home in the beautiful North Norfolk country-
side.
The site, at West Runton, near Cromer, former-
ly housed the Norfolk Shire Horse Centre.
There are five breeds of heavy horse on dis-
played at the centre: Shire, Suffolk Punch,
Clydesdale, Percheron and Ardenne.
Take a nostalgic trip into the past to see the
farming ways of yesteryear with the extensive
countryside collection. Blacksmith and Shire
Horse demonstrations on some days.
The Sanctuary has a large collection of horse-
drawn agricultural machinery and carts, which
are displayed in three museum buildings. Light
vehicles, including a horse-drawn omnibus and
four gypsy caravans, are on show.
An indoor arena is available, to ensure visitors
will not miss a thing regardless of the weather.
There is an Animal Friendly cafe which serves
hot lunches, teas and snacks, a souvenir gift
shop, a children's playground and activity area.
Dogs welcome on a lead.
Hillside is open from Sunday, April 5 - Sunday,
November 1. Closed Fridays and Saturdays in
April, May, September and October (open Good
Friday, Easter Saturday, Sunday and Monday).
Closed Saturdays only in June, July and August.
