FAMILY FAVOURITES IN THE CITY VISIT KENT
Y
ou will find plenty to do for all the family in
the cities of Canterbury and Rochester and
none more so than the sounds and smells of
a bygone era at The Canterbury Tales. This
labyrinth takes you through a 14th century
reconstruction of the poet Geoffrey Chaucer's
stories in an audio visual environment. The
attraction is right in the heart of the medieval city
and gives you a real sense of a time 500 years ago.
One of Kent's latest multi-million pound
attractions is Dickens World at Chatham
Maritime, just outside Rochester. Experience the
Great Expectations boat ride and the haunted
house of 1859. There is also a 4D cinema show,
theatre and the chance to come face to face with
Dickens' literary characters within a real-life set
of a Victorian courtyard.
The city of Rochester has a number of other major attractions on its
doorstep with The Historic Dockyard Chatham and The Royal Engineers
Museum. It is well worth, when you visit the Dockyard, booking a river trip
on the Kingswear Castle Paddle Steamer.
One of Canterbury's most famous patrons is Rupert the Bear who has his
own museum where you can find out more about his legendary tea parties
with the likes of Bill Badger and Edward Trunk. Find out about Mary
Tourtel, his creator and how his character developed and still lives on today.
The Museum of Canterbury can also be found on the same site.
Other must-do city family favourites include the Canterbury Historic River
Tour, which takes you on a journey along the River Stour through the
medieval city, Westgate Towers Museum and on the outskirts of Canterbury
you have the world-famous Howletts Wild Animal Park.
