Village Life TUESDAY Lynn News, April 14, 2009 5Website: www.lynnnews.co.uk
GET the best of both
worlds at Snettisham
the lively bustle of the vil-
lage centre or the tran-
quillity and wildlife of the
coast.
The main village centre, adjoin-
ing the A149 bypass, contains most
of the shops and facilities for every-
day life, while the area on the
coastal strip is hugely popular with
both holiday visitors, anglers, walk-
ers and birdwatchers.
The square in the centre of the
village has retained the charm and
character of yesteryear, despite the
increase in activity of recent times
as Snettisham has become a popu-
lar holiday destination and a mag-
net for local home-seekers.
The village has a grocers, butch-
ers, news agency and pharmacy,
several pubs, a bistro and a fish and
chip shop, as well as other local
shops.
There are also financial services
based in the village, saving you hav-
ing to make a journey into the near-
est town.
Majestic against the skyline, the
175 ft spire of St Mary's Church is
visible for miles and provides a
striking backdrop for the village
green.
Notice that many of the houses
are finished in the local carrstone,
which is a lovely golden-brown
colour and gives them the name of
"gingerbread houses" among the
locals.
Snettisham Park, with its famous
red deer herd and host of family
attractions, ensures a steady flow of
visitors through the village centre
all year round, while the gently
shelving sand and shingle beach
and bird reserves at the coastal
park also draw their regulars, what-
ever the season.
At Snettisham RSPB Reserve,
you can see many thousands of
wading birds and ducks, nesting
gulls and terns, and up to 40,000
pink-footed geese.
Snettisham Beach Sailing Club
has both dinghy racing on the sea
and an inland lake for junior sail-
ing.
SNETTFEST, now an annual
two-day music festival and
craft fair, will take place on
Saturday and Sunday,
August 8th-9th, in Snet-
tisham.
The focus is on providing
family friendly entertain-
ment, with local live bands
presenting a variety of
music from jazz to rock and
pop. There will also be
attractions for children and
various craft stalls, along
with food and drink stalls.
Located on the large Park
field, SNETTFEST will run
4pm-midnight on Saturday,
and on Sunday there will be
jazz from 1pm-5pm, and
rock and pop from 5pm-
11pm.
Day tickets are 5. Park
field is situated on a main
bus route with ample car
parking and toilet facilities
available.
