Charity flier
dies at scene
ORGANISERS of a local
Children in Need
fundraiser have paid
tribute to a keen supporter
killed in a plane crash.
Ian Davies was in a two-
seater light aircraft which
hit a tractor at Seething
Airfield, in Norfolk, on
October 29.
It burst into flames and Mr
Davies, an executive with
the Archant newspaper
group, was pronounced
dead at the scene.
Mr Davies, 49, regularly
appeared at the Little
Gransden Air and Vintage
Vehicle Show, which raises
charity cash each year.
Organier Dave Poile said:
"Ian had been a keen
supporter of our event at
Little Gransden over the
last few years either
displaying a single slot or
with The Red Sparrows in
his Chipmunk.
"Ian was always able to
share ideas with me on the
phone. All our thoughts
are with Ian's family at
this sad time."
The plane's owner,
Stephen Shutt, was left in
a critical condition.

Church will be creating a
beautiful memorial

Tributes paid
to crash victimTRIBUTES have been paid to
a 26-year-old woman killed in

happened on High Street, Toseland,
at around 5.15pm on Monday,
November 3.

Hinchingbrooke School and studied
at Loughborough University.
Friends have left heartfelt mess-
ages on Mrs Cepeda's Facebook
website profile since her death.
Thomas Luckett wrote: "No words
in the universe could describe how
sad I am you're not here anymore.
You were such a fantastic girl with a
great family and husband. My heart
goes out to all you left behind. You
will live on in my memories forever
and ever."
Philippa Skillin wrote: "Cousin
Becky, I will miss you and love you
forever."

loved by all of us so much and to be
taken away from us so suddenly has
devastated us all. You will be in our
hearts forever and a day."
He added: "I can't believe that I am
writing this about someone who was
so young. I hope you are in a happy
place. You will never be forgotten."
A neighbour said: "Clearly it has
hit the road sideways as most of the
road all have children who grew up
with her. I can't imagine how her
family must be feeling."
Firefighters from Papworth and St
Neots and a rescue vehicle from
Huntingdon were called to the crash.
One casualty had to be released
from a vehicle using specialist
cutting equipment and one was
taken by ambulance to Hinching-
brooke Hospital for treatment.
Pc Theron Pearman, investig-
ating, said: "I'd like to hear from
anyone who witnessed the collision

moments just before."

Green energy bid
by supermarket
SUPERMARKET giant Tesco
has launched green energy
schemes for its stores in
Huntingdon and St Neots.
It has applied for planning
permission from Huntingdon
District Council for permission
to install micro wind turbines
to provide power for the store in
Huntingdon and a gas-powered
system for St Neots which will
use surplus heat to keep the
store warm.
The move is part of a 100
million sustainable technology
drive by Tesco to halve its
carbon emissions by 2020.
Turbines planned for the
Huntingdon store would stand
just over 30 feet high with
vertical revolving wing-shaped
blades that are said to be
quieter than the traditional
windmill-style blades.
Power generated by the three
6kw turbines would be fed into
the store's electricity supply,
with each turbine capable of
delivering sufficient power for
the equivalent of four house-
holds and each saving 13.6
tonnes of CO2 a year.
A Tesco spokesman said:
"The investment in wind tur-
bines forms part of our comm-
unity plan to cut energy use.
"If we get the go-ahead the
turbines, which are inaudible
and increasingly efficient, will
help meet the energy needs and
lower the carbon footprint of
the store."
Tesco has been installing
green features in its new stores
and adding new technology in
its older outlets.
Katherine Symonds, Tesco
sustainability manager, said the
proposed Combined Heat and
Power (CHP) plant at St Neots
would be built next to the store
as part of an extension.
"The technology will allow us
to generate our own energy
from gas," she said, adding:
"CHP is more energy-efficient
than using grid electricity bec-
ause it makes use of the heat
that is created when electricity
is generated. In large power
stations this heat is dumped as
a useless by-product, but we
will use it to warm the store."
The plant is expected to cut
energy consumption by about
10 per cent.
