ress up this Valentine's Day and set
hearts fluttering with some lady-like
threads. Appearing at the restaurant
in a bum skimming mini, trilby, six-
inch heels and enough bling to put
Ivana Trump to shame might see the
more sensitive man dialling SOS from the safety of
the gents. But whether it's a first date or the first
date in years, making a bit of an effort sets the tone
for a bit of special treatment.
A cute first date dress just the right side of sexy
shows a new man you've taken the trouble to impress.
Even the long-term cohabiting have no excuse. If the
other half believes your wardrobe consists of jogging
bottoms and faintly ridiculous fluffy slippers, pull out
the stops on February 14.
This dress shape � as worn by ME model Katie �
couldn't be easier to wear. Look to the likes of Scarlett
Johansson and Nigella Lawson for inspiration.
Pick one with a tulip-shaped skirt and fitted bodice
to flatter all figures. The structure makes the most of a
curvy bust.
The knee-length tulip skirt shape skims wide hips
and creates hourglass proportions when worn with a
cinched waist belt.
For a romantic evening meal, pick a darker colour
or go all out hearts and roses with a scarlet shade.
ME is yet to meet a man who is impressed by the
footwear equivalent of a steaming bowl of comfort food
� the Ugg boot. Pair your dress with skyscraper-heeled
court shoes.
For a daytime date, try a large floral or tribal print �
both are hot news for spring and summer.
Accessories are best kept to a killer pair of earrings.
Makeup needs to make the most of what you've got
naturally. Amy Wattleworth, Clinique consultant at
House of Fraser, emphasised Katie's hazel eyes.
"I decided to go for a dark denim, smokey for
definition and because it's for Valentine's Day, we've
gone for a subtle red lip shade," she said.
According to Cheriece Wigston, menswear manager
at House of Fraser, a dark-dye pair of jeans and slim
fitting shirt are on the button for most occasions.
And once the preserve of geeks, the cardigan has
been making waves in men's fashion. Particularly in a
slim fit as found from Diesel.

17-year-olds brave
ribbing from pals and
warnings not to "settle down too
soon" from relations and consider
themselves lucky in love.
It all began after Katie, of Scotby,
spotted Rhys around Carlisle
before getting chatting to him on
MSN instant messenger.
Rhys, of Curthwaite, said: "I got
her number and started to text her
to see if we could meet up. We went
for a walk near her house in
Scotby and went down to the park
to sit on the swings.
"Then I asked her if she
was looking for a boyfriend."
Five months later, the pair are
inseparable.
Katie said: "People think that at
our age it's too young to be in a
serious relationship, but
everyone's different."
But the William Howard School
A-level student is still keen to
launch a career as a nurse in the
RAF. "We haven't really talked
about what will happen when I
finish. But we get on really well
and are great friends too."
And this Valentine's Day, Katie
is hoping for a romantic surprise
from Rhys, a Carlisle College
student. "This will be our first
Valentine's Day together. I'm going
to leave all the plans up to him."
