Unusually, British
drivers aren't taking
the race victories
in this year's
EuropeanSuperkart
Championships, the first 4 rounds having
being won by two Frenchmen and a German.
Indeed, only John Riley (3rd at Nogaro)
and Mark Owens (2nd at Lausitzring) have
made the podium. However, even if it turns
out to not be our year in the 250cc classes
in Europe (as in the football), a young
British driver is making waves abroad in a
different gearbox class where traditionally
we don't even usually have a representative.
17 year-old Jack Hawksworth stunned the 125cc KZ2 opposition at
the opening round of the European Championships at Angerville,
winning five heats, leading over the line in Final 1 and coming 2nd in
Final 2 on his British built Gillard chassis and British prepared AFR
TM. Unfortunately his start in Final 1 was deemed too quick and he
received a time penalty demoting him to 7th place. All the same a very
impressive performance and one that bodes well for the rest of the
championship. A big well done and good luck to Jack and his team for
the rest of the season!
