58 BLMGroup Gourmet & Good FoodGuide Situated around the River Welland, South Holland is the
quintessential Lincolnshire, and owes much to its agricultural
heritage.
This is best illustrated by the Spalding Flower Festival
where, each summer, thousands of visitors come to see the
procession of decorated carnival floats as they make their
way through the town. Spalding is famed for its tulips and
owes much of its development to matters floral.
In recent years, Spalding8217s town centre has come to life,
with hundreds of shops and restaurants, as well as its
regular markets selling all manner of fresh produce. In
addition, the new Springfields development has brought the
big names to the town, and each summer, the Water Taxis
ferry shoppers from there to the town centre and back, via
the unspoilt River Welland. The walled gardens of
Ayscoughfee Hall just add to the appeal.
There8217s more to South Holland than Spalding, though 8211
the villages of Crowland, Holbeach, Long Sutton and Sutton
Bridge all play host to dozens of great quality pubs and small
restaurants, many of which serve up wonderful local
produce on their menus.South HollandAn area steeped in
