The university is strengthening its links with
Darlington, with work to get under way on a new
13m building in the town.
The university's board of governors has given
its approval for a new five-storey building. Set to
be completed by June 2011, it will be located
beside Darlington College's buildings in Central
Park.
Plans have been submitted for a 3.5m Higher
Education Centre at Redcar and Cleveland
College. The college is collaborating with two key
sponsors, The Sir William Turner Trust and
Teesside University, in the hope of building a
state-of-the-art learning facility for students
looking to study higher education courses at the
site on Corporation Road.
And work is also well under way on a 17m
dental therapy and sports therapy complex next
to the School of Health and Social Care's Centuria

EESSIDE University has plenty to celebrate
after being named the best in Britain. It
was named University of the Year at the
recent Times Higher Education magazine's
awards, regarded by some as the sector's biggest
accolade.
It had been shortlisted for the prize alongside the
University of Nottingham, Bournemouth University,
the University of Warwick, the University of
Winchester and Queen Mary, University of London.
The award means Teesside has become the first
modern university to win the title.
As well as the University of the Year crown, the
university was also awarded the Outstanding
Employer Engagement Initiative Award.
Vice-chancellor Graham Henderson said: "Teesside
is the first modern university to ever receive
recognition as the University of the Year.
"It was therefore, both an amazing moment and a
huge personal honour for me to be able to accept
this award on behalf of my university.
"I really cannot put into words how proud
everyone at the university feels at having been given
such a wonderful accolade.
"We are confident winning this award will go a
long way towards changing perceptions not just of
the university but of the town and the Tees Valley,
nationally and internationally."
The accolades come as the university continues to
invest in its operations in the Tees Valley offering
further education opportunities and expanding
