was a straight sprint to the flag. Financial
Fission had a comfortable margin over KAD
Racing and Loud Pedal Racing. However, a
coming together between these two lost KAD
Racing a podium finish. This promoted MTR,
although they were lucky not to get excluded
as they repeatedly failed to come into the
pits after being given a black flag when their
exhaust mount broke.
At the finish it was a convincing victory for
Financial Fission with Loud Pedal Racing 2nd
and MTR 3rd.
ROOKIE Enduro
Round 3 - Lydd
Team Ginster continued their impressive run
of form by scoring a convincing win in only
their third race and putting them in joint lead
of the championship with Wing Nuts. In fact
so dominant was their win that even a black
flag for "advantage by contact" couldn't stop
them and you had to look three laps further
back to find the second placed team.
Qualifying was a similar story with Team
Ginster claiming an easy pole position ahead
of All Show No Go and mixing it with the
Intermediate teams. The Ant Hill Mob were
3rd with PCR, The Speed Muppets and The
Rookie Racers rounding out the top six.
Having a miserable time in qualifying were
Team Pikey Racing. After an impressive
podium finish at Rye, they found themselves
on the back row of the grid in 36th position.
Team Ginster led the opening laps before
losing out on lap 4 and dropping to 3rd behind
All Show No Go and The Ant Hill Mob.
Due to the nature of the new track layout
making it difficult to overtake, the running
order remained constant throughout much
of the early laps. In fact it was mainly failed
overtaking moves resulting in accidents and
the varying speed in the pit stops that decided
the race for most teams.
Team Ginster made the most of the pit
stops and by half distance had a commanding
lead over Team Pikey Racing, who had made
stellar progress from the back of the grid. By
this stage, The Speed Muppets, The Ant Hill
Mob and All Show No Go had all dropped out
of contention for the lead.
With less than 15 minutes to go, the leaders
were shown the black flag for an incident while
lapping a backmarker. They came in for their
mandatory 10s penalty and rejoined without
losing their lead and held this until the flag.
Following them home in a very distant 2nd
were the Wing Nuts with the Pikey's scoring
their second consecutive podium in 3rd.
SPRINT Round 3 - Lydd
Another full entry in each of the respective
Sprint classes ensured that Lydd would be
a sure fire success. Lots of drivers tested on
the Friday or raced in the Endurance on the
Saturday to get track time and this proved to
be crucial on Sunday May 4th.
Chris Powell became the first driver to
win both Premier Finals, charging through
from grid 20 to win Final 1 after a superb last
corner move on long time leader Dan Butler,
whilst Ben Yeomans rounded out the top three
ahead of Ant Teal and Sam Garford. Garford
pushed Powell all the way in Final 2, the pair
of them quickly sweeping aside polesitter
Trevor Randall who held on for a solid 3rd
ahead of Jamie Jakins and Dan Butler. Try as
he might, Garford could not pass Powell and
hence the latter made it two from two.
Steve Kendall displaced championship
leader and polesitter James Attfield on the
last corner of the opening lap of the HW Final
and never looked back, edging clear of Will
Gibson who in turn finished a safe 2nd ahead
of James Childe who had stormed through
to 3rd, at the expense of the duelling Gavin
Knight and Kevin Coombes, on the final lap.
Guy Holiday made it an easy lights to flag
win in the LW class whilst Lee Kemp fought
his way up into 2nd place, overhauling round
2 winner Parmveer Nijjar around half distance
before fending off an on-form Richard
Higham. Higham unfortunately had to serve
a two place penalty for an ABC infringement
that dropped him to 5th, promoting Paul
Lloyd to 3rd and Nijjar to 4th.
