Lovers' Day will be held between 10am-4pm.
Twenty specialist nurseries will come with a

Norfolk Plant Heritage (NCCPG) will be repre-
sented and all proceeds will go to Wells
THERE will be three world premieres at the
fifth North Norfolk Music Festival, which takes
place from Friday, September 4, until, Sunday,
September 13.
All concerts take place at St Mary's Church,
South Creake, except for Thursday,
September 10, when the Smart Quartet will be
performing at Burnham Norton Church.
The festival will begin with a concert that
includes two world premieres, a new work for
viola and piano by composer/pianist Huw
Watkins, and Simon Rowland-Jones'
Wiegenlied Variations, a set of variations on
Brahms' Lullaby, commissioned by a Friend
and Benefactor of the Festival.
Their programme also exploits the intrigu-
ing link between Beethoven's Moonlight
Sonata and the Sonata for viola and piano by
Dmitri Shostakovich, the composer's final and
very profound utterance.
Works by Joseph Haydn feature in many of
the concerts to mark the 200th anniversary
year of his death.
The world-famous Belcea Quartet make
their first appearance at the festival.
Pianist Martin Cousin makes a return visit
to South Creake in a programme of works by
Bach, Mendelssohn and Schumann.
Julia Cload, too, makes a return visit, this
time with a programme of Haydn and Liszt.
There will be two song recitals, one by
mezzo-soprano Felicity Palmer, one of this
country's most distinguished singers, and the
other by the young and highly-talented
American tenor John McMunn in a pro-
gramme of songs by Schumann and Schubert.
The much-loved pianist, Simon Lepper, makes
a welcome return to the festival to accompa-
ny both singers.
The festival presents its first-ever pro-
gramme of baroque music by the
ensemble La Serenissima in a
concert of music by Vivaldi,
Tartini, Albinoni and Galuppi.
The Atos Piano Trio from
Germany, first prizewinners in
the 2007 Melbourne International
Chamber Music, will appear at
the festival a few weeks in
advance of their London dbut at
Wigmore Hall.
Beloved Clara tells the touch-
ing story of Robert and Clara
Schumann through a programme
of their music and readings from
their letters.
The pianist Lucy Parham is
joined by actors Joanna David
and Martin Jarvis as Clara and
Robert.
From Chethams School in
Manchester comes the very
young and delightful Smart
Quartet.
Two dynamic young string
quartets, the Carducci String
Quartet and Brodowski String
Quartet, will combine forces to
give a concert of Haydn quartets
and two works for larger string
ensembles, the world premire of
Simon Rowland-Jones's octet
and the exuberant sextet by
Tschaikowsky Souvenir de
Florence.
