e have some of the best
instructors and guides in
the world and you'll find
them the length and breadth of the
country. A fantastic experience is
guaranteed no matter your level
of skill!
One of the greatest things about
learning to fish is that anyone can
do it no matter their age, fitness or
experience. And coming to
Scotland is the perfect place to
learn. Everyone trying out the sport
for the first time will be guaranteed
a warm welcome and top quality
professional instruction.
Scotland has some of the best
fishing in the world, be it coarse,
game or sea. And better still, it is
very easily accessible and
surprisingly affordable. Fishing is
not all about skill - luck definitely
plays a part. It is also a sport for
having fun and escaping from the
madness of everyday life. This is
why it is such a perfect sport for
everyone.
Always book a qualified and
professional instructor and then
you will be assured of the best
possible instruction in a safe and
fun environment. All instructors will
provide the necessary tackle, so
you do not have to buy before you
learn, but you can always bring
your own equipment if you want.
An extensive list of angling
instructors and guides can be
found using the web address at
the bottom of this page.
Scotland has numerous
commercial trout or coarse
fisheries and these are definitely the
places to first try out the sport.
These fisheries always welcome
anglers of all abilities and ages with
a genuine smile and as much help
and advice as you want. Tackle hire
is often available and they can
nearly always organise for you to
get the services of a qualified and
professional instructor or angling
guide. Discounts are regularly
available for junior anglers.
Of course you don't have to take
any lessons at all (though if you are
a complete beginner it will definitely
help your chances of success!) and
in fact all you need to do is buy
your permit and start fishing. No
one is going to laugh and you'll be
amazed how often an angler or
passer by will stop to give some
local advice. That's what it is like in
Scotland - everyone wants to see
you having a great time on holiday.
There is a myth that the salmon
rivers of Scotland are the preserve
of the rich and elite but nothing
could be further from the truth. All
the best salmon rivers always
extend a real welcome to
beginners and their families. The
ghillies on these rivers are more
than willing to pass on any tips
they can and in fact many ghillies
are highly qualified instructors with
an international reputation. If you
don't have salmon fishing gear
then again don't worry as many
beats can organise the loan or
rental of tackle. Just let them know
in advance and don't be
embarrassed to say that you are a
beginner. Everyone had to start
somewhere!
The only real danger is that
once you start fishing it can turn
into a lifelong passion. You have
been warned! But the good news
is that after you've had a taste of
the great fishing and fantastic
holiday that Scotland can offer
then you will want to come back
every year.
Fishing is
engaging,
interesting and
fun; whatever
your age

Did You Know?
The biggest fly caught Atlantic salmon on record was
caught on Aberdeenshire's River Deveron in 1924 and
weighed in at an astonishing 61lb. Ironically, the catch
was made by Mrs Clementine `Tiny' Morison.
