or a generous helping of fresh air, fabulous walks, amazing
castles and an impressive cultural heritage, the north-east is
thoroughly satisfying. With long golden beaches and an
intricate cove-studded coast, this is a romantics' paradise. And,
throughout the region, numerous waymarked trails, allow for
effortless walking.
North of Aberdeen lie the fertile, ancient, regions of Buchan and
Formartine. The excellent Formartine and Buchan Way provides
easy access through the countryside. Wheelchair-friendly in parts,
the level Way follows the old Buchan railway line from the
outskirts of Aberdeen to the fishing towns of Peterhead
(54 miles/86kms) and Fraserburgh (41 miles/66kms), taking
in traditional settlements en route.
Further west, Royal Deeside is a Mecca for walkers, with
beautiful woodland walks and mountains. At the heart of this
