YORKSHIRE TODAY
WEDDING GUIDE 51FLOWERSFlowers have always been part of the beauty
and romance of weddings. Today, there8217s a
huge choice of wedding flowers, from exotic
blooms to seasonal favourites to beautifully made
and completely convincing silk flowers.
The most important factor to consider when
choosing your flowers is that they should
complement your wedding dress. Working closely
with a professional florist is perhaps the best way to
know what will and won8217t work.
Take swatches of your dress fabric and the
bridesmaids dresses, to allow the florist to create a
bridal bouquet that will complement your dress.
The florist should be able to offer you advice on
which style of bouquet will suit the style of your
dress, and which flowers will best complement your
hair colour, complexion and so on. The florist
should also be able to adapt styles and colours to
suit your personality.
The florist should be booked approximately five
to six months before the wedding, if not sooner,
and a meeting arranged at approximately six weeks
to discuss and finalise ideas.
Larger bouquets, such as the teardrop, used to be
the most popular style, but today more brides are
opting for small posies and naturally tied bunches
of flowers on their own stems, to create a simple yet
dramatic effect.
A professional florist can also take care of the
venue arrangements which can often include
flowers at the church and the reception.
Although never easy, try to set yourself a budget
and stick to it. Any florist who8217s worth their weight
should be able to work within your budget, and if
you want to keep costs down ask your florist to use
flowers that are in season.Say it with
