4 Coventry & Nuneaton LIVING
Christmas pudding race
returns to Nuneaton
A RECENT festive tradition is
being observed once again
this year, with the Christmas
Pudding Race scheduled for
December 11th.
Teams of four will be challenged
to dash through the Abbeygate
Shopping Centre in Nuneaton,
with participants dressed in
suitably Crimbo-inspired garb
(see left, for last year's efforts).
Dame Dotty Dimple, pantomime
dame at Bedworth Civic Hall,
will attend to ensure there is no
cheating and to present prizes.
Teams will be charged 20 to
enter and money raised will go
towards supporting the Mayor's
charities, which include The
Meningitis Trust.
The race will begin at 1pm.
Cheering crowds are expected
to be out in force.

register, contact Nicola Cormell

COV ON CELLULOID* Lady Godiva: Back in the Saddle, made in
2007, starred ex-Steps singer Faye Tozer and 1990s
big name Tony Slattery, and was filmed in the city.* The 1969 crime caper The Italian Job was partially
filmed in the sewers beneath Coventry. The city's slime
tunnel stood in for the sewers of Turin.

The
Nativity
story
The city looks forward to
its appearance in what
could become a classic
Christmas movie
COVENTRY and Warwickshire
could soon be over-run with
eager film fans, keen to catch a
glimpse of the streets on which
Ashley Jensen herself once
walked down.
Maybe. That might happen.
It really all depends on
how successful a Christmas
movie Nativity is. The partially
improvised comedy, also starring
Martin Freeman (inset, top left)
and Alan Carr, along with a whole
load of Cov locals as extras, was
filmed on location in the Coventry
Telegraph and Living magazine
offices, Bablake School,
Kenilworth, the Ricoh Arena and
Spon Street.
Written and directed by
Coventry-based Debbie Isitt, the
plot centres on the competition
between a state primary and a
private school to produce the
best nativity play each year.
Mr Maddens (played by
Freeman), a frustrated under-
achiever, is sick of losing out to
Gordon Shakespeare and the
posh school every year. So he
ends up fibbing to his rival about
how ex-girlfriend Jennifer Lore
(Jensen) now a Hollywood
producer fancies turning his
production into a blockbuster.
Alan Carr is the newspaper
critic whose approval is fought
for by the two teachers.
Of course, Maddens' lie soon
spirals out of control as more and
more people try to get involved in
his big project. So all he can do
is hope to make his former love
take his idea on for real.
Isitt, a former Coventry student,
also made Confetti, again starring
Martin Freeman, alongside
Jessica Stevenson and Alison
Steadman.
Nativity is due for release on
December 4th.
