THERE was a warm reception for the
Canary Wharf Ice Rink as it made its
2009 debut.
An excited crowd of guests and
onlookers attended a Gala Evening on
Friday to mark the launch of the rink.
It has become an annual fixture in the
calendar and this year marks the fifth
anniversary of the facility in Canada
Square Park.
There was plenty to heat up the
evening, with a masterclass from
British figure skating champion Matt
Parr, above, and performance from
Danish classical vocalist Helene
Horlyck. The rink is open even longer
and later this year, with skaters able to
do their dancing on ice up until
February 21.
Sessions run from 9.45am to 11pm
Monday to Saturday, with the last
Sunday session ending at 7.30pm.
Adjacent to the rink is an expanded
viewing gallery attached to the Moose
Bar, below, that is 50 per cent larger
than last year's offering.

Park glows in the darkJUBILEE Park will be lit up with a new art
installation this winter.
Kablovi Park by Admir Jukanovic
looks at the energy travelling around
Canary Wharf through thousands of cables
underneath its buildings.
Groups of coloured cables wind their way
around the park representing all the energy
that flows to the offices, shops and London
Underground on the estate.
The installation is the latest to be com-
missioned by Canary Wharf Group's public
art team.
Jukanovic is a German artist born to
Bosnian parents and who now lives and
exhibits in London.
As a lighting designer, he often uses
cabling in his work. Kablovi translates
from Bosnian to cable, meaning the name
of the work is cable park.
