48 THE JOURNAL
TRANSPORT
Find a stylish carriage . . .
M
any brides have
very firm ideas
about the
vehicle in
which they
want to arrive at
the ceremony.
Traditionally, the bride will arrive
with her father, or who is to give her
away, and that same vehicle will be
used to take her and her new
husband to the reception.
Over recent years, there have been
many quirky modes of transport
used, from a hay wain complete with
heavy horses to a carriage and four
prancing, matched thoroughbreds. In
between come dog carts, governess
carts, old stage coaches, decorated
lorries, old fire engines, milk floats,
bikes, motorbikes and anything else
on wheels you could possibly
imagine.
There is even a record of a bride
being carried to the church in a sedan
chair.
However, no matter how many
brides choose the weird and
wonderful, the majority usually
plump for the comfort and luxury of
a vintage or modern limousine.
Stretched limos, Rolls-Royces and
other luxury cars are available to hire
complete with uniformed chauffeur.
And there's a lot to be said for them.
In our climate, protection from
the weather is of paramount
importance to most brides who really
don't want to arrive at the ceremony
looking dishevelled, or who feel that
the traditional "something blue"
should preferably not be them.
When considering a car, it should
preferably not be a two-door affair.
A bride dressed in a wedding
gown does not want to be seen
arriving at the ceremony climbing
over a folded front seat with her
dress getting caught up. The car may
look flash but the bride will certainly
not look her best!
Wedding car hire firms will also be
able to supply cars for other members
of the wedding party, and for guests,
if it is known many will not have
their own transport to get them to the
reception.
You could even hire a double
decker bus to get your guests to and
from the reception this would
certainly turn heads and give guests
something to remember.
Make sure all cars are booked well
in advance, and confirm to the hiring
firm, at least two weeks before, the
exact times they are expected to be at
the various pick-up places.
Transport, at first, may not seem to
be the most important aspect to
consider when planning a wedding,
but everyone wants to get "to the
church on time!"
Usually it is men who
will be found drooling
over sexy sports cars
and charismatic
classics. But for one
day only, it can be the
chance of the bride to
choose a show-stopper
to bring her to the
church in style.
