THIS year, Hunstanton and District Festival of
Arts now includes the reinstated Hunstanton
Carnival under its banner.
The festival will run for a week from June 19,
and includes Carnival Day on Sunday, June 28.
This will be a chance for residents, local groups
and musicians to celebrate and bring the streets
of Hunstanton to life.
During the week there will be concerts show-
casing Smithdon High School's talented young-
sters, these performances always prove to be
very popular.
The Iceni Ensemble, a string quartet, will be
performing at Hunstanton Town Hall on June 19,
and historian Dr Paul Richards will be speaking
on King's Lynn and the Hanseatic League at the
Town Hall on June 24.
The festival's big weekend will host a packed
programme of events which will culminate with
Carnival Sunday and bring together a live music
festival, Street Entertainment, stalls, games, a
performance of Alice in Wonderland at the
Princess Theatre sponsored by the Borough
Council, the Carnival Parade and much more.
Alice through the Looking Glass is Quantum
Theatre's new family show for 2009; it follows
Alice's fantastical adventure in the strange world
she enters through the mirror above her draw-
ing-room fireplace.
Full of memorable characters like
Tweedledum and Tweedledee and the mythical
Jabberwocky, the show will be colourful, fast
and energetic with live music and plenty of fun
with many of the fine nonsense poems and
songs.
An exciting, new event for 2009 will be the
Gig on the Green on Saturday, June 27, a do-
not-miss-it, treat of free live music, featuring
favourite local talent such as The Moonies and
Ellen and the Elephants. The gig will end with a
headline act.
Hunstanton Carnival, on Sunday, June 28, is
reinstated with a new and enthusiastic carnival
committee.
The carnival procession will be mainly a walk-
ing parade this year rather than everyone using
the traditional floats. This gives scope for all
sorts of groups to take part.
The parade will leave from the Lighthouse
Field at 1pm and will be led by carnival King,
Queen, Prince and Princess. The theme for this
year is Stage and Screen. There will be lots of
fun activities on the Green from 10am.
It is hoped that people will take part and
enjoy what promises to be a fantastic weekend.
Applications to take part in the Carnival
Parade can be obtained in Hunstanton from the
Princess Theatre.
