W
E'VE been promised
a scorching summer,
but this is Scotland
and we could end
up sitting indoors watching
rain run down the windows.
However, with a bit of magic, you
could have a wizard time in any weather.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood
Prince will be launched at cinemas up
and down the country on July 17, so it's
time to enter the spirit of Hogwarts.
A handful of Bertie Bott-style
enchanted beans could kick things off.
BeanBoozled, 2.30 from the Jelly Belly
sweetie company, are as much a dare
as a treat. It's impossible to tell if your
bean will be lovely or loathsome.

If that's not revolting enough, your
trainee wizards might like to conduct
some stomach-turning experiments
that would impress potions teacher
Professor Slughorn.
A Gross Magic kit (18.99) has
everything you need for a huge range
of revolting tricks, including creating a
toilet full of poo and conjuring a
cockroach from a dustbin.
Other surprises include exploding
eyeballs and enormous bogies, and
your little magicians might even learn
some science. (www.drummondpark.com)
There's lots of fun to be had acting
out the adventures of Harry and his
chums with the help of a new range of
action figures and wands. The wands
make magic noises and light up as you
cast spells. They're all part of a new
range that includes Harry, Ron,
Hermione as well as GinnyWeasley,
Albus Dumbledore and many others.
The toys start at 8.99 and are available
from Argos.
While this sorcery can't be carried
out in an enchanted academy, you
could give your home a Harry-style
makeover.
Little girls will love the Crystal
Castle play set from Dream Town
(www.dreamtown.com) complete with
turrets and grand entrance doors.
Alternatively, budding Hagrids
would love a fire-breathing dragon
mirror on their bedroom walls. It's
made from shatterproof acrylic and
comes with adhesive to stick it up.

On the other hand, they could
rustle up some magic of their own by
decorating their own rooms.
