For many healthcare professionals, and especially
nurses, the double checking of medications is part
of their daily routine.
Next month, Gerry Armitage, a senior research fellow
at the Bradford Institute for Health Research and a
senior lecturer at the University of Bradford, reports
on his study of medication errors and their reporting.
Surprisingly, his research has unearthed a view that,
rather than protecting against medication errors,
double checking sometimes contributes to them.
