NoRWAY Major expressways charge tolls, as
do some large cities. There are fees for using
the internal ferry system. Major roads are kept
open all winter, but some are closed occa-
sionally for snow, and others are shut down
for the winter by Dec.ree. Trams always have
priority. on narrow mountain roads, vehicles
traveling downhill have priority; vehicles
traveling uphill should reverse into a pass-
ing bay if there's not enough room for two
vehicles to pass. It is illegal to drive off-road.
Headlights must be on at all times when driv-
ing. Excessive use of horns is illegal. In general,
unless you are on a road posted with yel-
low-diamond signs, yield to oncoming traffic
on the right. Speed limit Motorway, 90 kph;
open road, 80 kph; town 30-50 kph. Alcohol
limit 0.2mg/1. Minimum driving age 18.
Seat belts are compulsory front and rear.
Children under 4 years old must use proper
seat or restraint. Children over four years
old should travel in the rear and be properly
secured. Seatbelts are mandatory in the front
and rear. Snow tires are mandatory in winter.
Helmets are mandatory for motorcyclists.
PoRTuGAL Major roads and the 25 de Abril
Bridge charge tolls. on roads that are three
lanes wide, the middle lane is for passing in
both directions. At night, watch for animal
drawn, unlit carts in rural areas. Your horn may
only be used in case of immediate danger.

90 kph; town, 50 kph. Alcohol limit 0.5mg/1.
Minimum driving age 17. Children must
12 or over, or in a child safety seat, to sit in
the front seat. Seatbelts are mandatory for
the front seat outside built-up areas. You
must carry a warning triangle in your vehicle.
Motorcyclists must wear helmets.
SPAIN Generally, traffic on the right has the
priority. Where a minor road intersects a major
one, and the intersection is unmarked, the
major road has the priority. Many towns have
sensors just outside the border; if you are driv-
ing over the limit, a traffic light at the edge of
town turns red. Two red lights means no entry.
Two warning triangles, as well as spare bulbs
for your lights are required. Vehicles must have
at least two rear-view mirrors. Major roads
and some tunnels require a toll. All vehicles
must use headlights in tunnels. use of a horn
in built-up areas is illegal, except in immedi-
ate danger. If a vehicle behind you wants to
pass, and you see that the road ahead is clear,
you must signal the car with your right signal.

(0.2mg/1 for new drivers). Minimum driving
age 18 Motorcycles must be operated with
headlights on at all times. Helmets are manda-
tory for motorcyclists and their passengers on
vehicles with engines larger than 125 cc.
SWITZERLAND You must purchase a sticker
(called a vignette) to drive on the expressways;
these cover some tunnels. Always use head-
lights in tunnels. When passing, don't cross
a double white line. When returning to your
lane after passing, always use your right sig-
nal. use your horn only in cases of immediate
