Yaxley 2 St Neots Town 0
EAGLE BITTER UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE,
PREMIER DIVISION
MARVIN Johnson felt
St Neots' wasteful finishing
and an inspired goalkeeper
were to blame for St Neots
losing at Yaxley.
The manager saw Matt Bannister
head wide and Jon Hoggett fail to get a
shot away in the first half, while Keith
Thomas was thwarted by the home
shot-stopper.
And the visitors were made to pay
the price when Yaxley scored two
goals early in the second period to end
St Neots' five-game unbeaten run in
the league.
Johnson said: "I thought we played
well, but some good saves and us not
taking our chances cost us.
"I was disappointed to lose but,
overall, I wasn't too upset with the
manner of the defeat."
Eynesbury Rovers 4 Buckingham Tn 2
EAGLE BITTER UCL, DIVISION ONE
JAMIE Graham secured maximum
points for Eynesbury as they
overcame fourth-placed Buckingham
to stay top of the table.
The hosts were 1-0 up at the break
thanks to Danny Tyler's effort, before
Chris Brown and Brett Bellamy
looked to have sealed the win soon
after the restart with a goal apiece.
But the visitors fought back and
reduced the deficit on the hour, and
then pulled another one back from the
penalty spot following a foul by
Chris Lenton.
However, the leaders were not to be
denied and Graham popped up 10
minutes from time to seal it.
Eynesbury's assistant manager Pat
O'Keefe said: "We played some of our
best football of the season. Brett and
Jamie were outstanding up front and
the back three did really well."
Potton United 1 Northampton Spencer 5
EAGLE BITTER UCL, PREMIER DIVISION
DAVE Fisk's blistering drive counted
for nothing as Potton were left cursing
a dubious penalty decision after their
defeat against Northampton Spencer.
The midfielder's powerful effort
made it 1-1 with half an hour played,
but the visitors restored their
advantage moments later. And Dave
Goodall was penalised for a push
inside the area just before the interval
as the away side increased their
advantage from the spot.
Potton conceded twice more in the
second half and secretary Bev Strong
felt the penalty award was harsh.
She said: "It was gutting all the
players were walking towards the
halfway line as they thought it was a
foul to us, but the referee had pointed
to the spot."
YOUNG St Neots angler Jordan Elt
(centre) was overjoyed to capture this
21lb 4oz pike.
The 10 year old was accompanied on
the trip by pal George Martin (left), and
brother Marcus, eight, all pupils at
Priory Junior School.
The beast was caught on a roach
deadbait at dusk. CCPP
