Welcome to the Pembrokeshire
Coast National Park
"It's beautiful and it's mine" the
simple reason given by one of our
visitors when we asked what makes
the Pembrokeshire Coast National
Park special.
Peaceful, unique and unspoilt are
also descriptions we often hear from
residents and holidaymakers, while
the `variety of wildlife' here features
regularly too.
The Pembrokeshire Coast National
Park is one of Britain's Breathing
Spaces; designated in 1952 as a
protected landscape and managed by
the Pembrokeshire Coast National
Park Authority for people to enjoy.
In 2009, as we become ever more
conscious of our changing climate, it's
all the more important to find new
ways to make sure the Park's coast,
countryside and wealth of wildlife
remain protected now and in future.

A special place for everyone...
forever
The Pembrokeshire Coast
is Britain's only truly coastal
National Park.
There are two other National
Parks in Wales Brecon Beacons
and Snowdonia and another
11 across the UK.
They are `Britain's Breathing
Spaces'; places where you can
slow down and breathe easily.
More people live in the
Pembrokeshire Coast National
Park than almost any other in the
country. So it really is a living,
working landscape.
It's the job of the National Park
Authority - made up of 18 Members - to
protect this landscape, for its own sake
and as somewhere for people to enjoy.
The Authority also has a special
responsibility to look after local
communities and work with them
towards a sustainable future.
Britain's Breathing Spaces
Superbly appointed
and equipped, cosy
cedarwood lodges.
Ideal for families,
couples and individuals.

Coast to Coast gives you plenty
of ideas on how to enjoy the Park
with minimal impact on the precious
environment that makes it unique.
Visit Oriel y Parc, our new,
award-winning landscape gallery in
St Davids, where you can see
paintings and other treasures from
the national collections of
Amgeuddfa Cymru-National
Museum Wales and learn about the
landscape of the National Park. You
can also find out how `green' this
unusual building is, in its design and
in the way it is run. See pages 4 and
5 for details.
Take a coastal bus to the start of
an amble or ramble on the
Pembrokeshire Coast Path National
Trail, which winds its way along 186
miles of remarkable coastline. Many
stretches of the Path are now fully
accessible for wheelchairs and
pushchairs (see page 17 for details).
Take a boat trip to one of
Pembrokeshire's islands with a boat
operator that's signed up to the
Pembrokeshire Marine Code and
you'll help respect the county's
marine wildlife. The islands' gems
include bluebells and bottlenose
dolphins, primroses and porpoises
as well as internationally important
birdlife. See pages 46 & 47.
And it may be the
Pembrokeshire Coast National Park,
but it's not just the coast that's
breathtaking. A new water bus will
take you on a restful journey into
the `Secret Waterway' to enjoy a
taste of the wooded wildlife haven
of the Daugleddau Estuary (see
page 7). Then there are the Preseli
Hills Bluestone country, and the
Gwaun Valley an ancient wooded
valley in the heart of the
Pembrokeshire countryside.
So whether you're a first time
visitor or you call Pembrokeshire
your home, we're sure you'll agree
that the Pembrokeshire Coast
National Park is truly a special
place. It is beautiful and it is yours -
and we hope you'll continue to
help us look after it.
